But when Hanna smiles, she actually shows teeth! This may look vicious, but she only does it when she is particularly happy, like when we come downstairs in the morning and she hasn't seen us all night! Always it is accompanied by a stub/bottom wag. Does anybody else's dog do this?! |
|
**CHEESE!** |
MO only shows half her teeth.........a snarl. Your's is so much cuter!
Years ago a local boarding kennel got new neighbor's.......the company before CostCo.......can't remember the name. Anyway two of the owner's labradors esccaped down to the entry to the store. They LOVED everyone and stood at the entrace and smiled showing their pearl whites! They closed the store, wouldn't let people out or in due to the "mad dogs" at the entry. (yes the tails were waggin' at 50 mph too) Fortunately someone recognized the two dogs and called the owners, before the cops or animal control showed up. That whole line had smiles.......what a nice trait to pass on. |
KEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Where have you been?????????? OF COURSE dogs smile |
You know, come to think about it......Jack shows his teeth when he's trying to get our attention.......he shows his pearly whites, makes a "harrf" sound, then flips a food bowl over. (obviously food oriented dog)
I'd rather be greeted by your smiling boy. |
OK, to be honest, that would scare the bejeeeesus out of me.
I guess it comes frmo having ham eaten off of my arm by my cute little Jakester. |
Violet and both my Aussies smile alot. The Aussies smile more then Violet expecially China...she is a big smiler. |
The grins where they roll their lips back to expose their teeth, yet wag their entire bodies (that's the part that tells you that you aren't on the current menu ) tend to be submissive grins. My first OES did it, as does one of the last rescues I fostered. Both named Heidi as it happens. Any time there was too much attention on one of them, or just too much commotion for them, they'd deflect it by grinning. I hadn't seen it in years and so Rescue Heidi's response really caught me off guard.
I figure it starts out as excessive submissiveness, and then they learn that it works for them because you almost can't help but laugh and I think most dogs quickly figure out that laughter is mutually exclusive with being angry: "HEIDI! What did you DO??!!" "Who? Me?? Teeheehee. Not me! Don't be mad at me!! Heeheehee" Sure, right. Try keeping a straight face, I dare you. The harder you laugh, the more they grin (watch them, it's a nervous grin - they probably think the human has gone loco and figure if they just keep grinning nothing bad will happen to them ) And the harder their butts go. It's quite hilarious. Kristine |
How about the smile with the tongue out?
|

She's just sticking her tongue out at you! |
Aw shucks, you're right. She's saying, "I have Daddy all to myself so there"...tongue comes out. |
She ain't a sheepie. but she sure loves the camera!
...although she doesn't love the camera as nearly as much as the sheepie ...I believe Yuki was out of the house this day, so she was all smiles!! |
Mrs J. -It's hard to believe that's a real dog. At first I thought it was a stuffed animal. He/she is truly smiling! How adorable. |
Here's Roxy. She's at the bridge now....but I'll always remember her goofy smile!
|
Chauncey will smile and look over his shoulder at you when you scratch his bum, yea that's why we call him butt-boy. |
Now THAT's cute!!!!!!!!!! Joahaeyo wrote: She ain't a sheepie. but she sure loves the camera! ...although she doesn't love the camera as nearly as much as the sheepie ...I believe Yuki was out of the house this day, so she was all smiles!! |

That picture of Chase is hilarious. Love it!! |
I will have to get a picture of our beagle Baxter on here.... Now he could smile!!! (he has also crossed the bridge... but I can remember that smile!)
I will try to get it on the sight. Those smile pictures are just the best!! I can't say that I have ever seen Baloo smile with teeth showing... he's more of a tongue kinda boy. |
Ralph smiles. It seems more apparent when he has longer hair for some reason. He also has "a little sewn on mouth" when he's shaggy - just like the stuffies. |
My Chesapeake Magel would smile, actually curling back her lip and then would wave at the same time on command. I don't have the fogiest where she learned that either. |
Scruffy will give us a cute smile on occasion.
But our Weim is the one who really smiles. |
i have a seven year old PBGV who smiles on command. i ask him to show me his teeth, he does and it looks like he's smiling......it's so adorable...i have to get a pic of him doing it and post it here.... |
These are soooo cute and funny, I'm sitting here laughing my tush off! Pirate smiles. I have a great picture of him, but its at home. I'll have to post it later. Thanks for the smiles...I needed them today! |
I finally got around to getting this picture out.... sorry about the quality- it's got a couple scratches on it from when my youngest would 'insist' on carrying it to kindergarten!!!
This is our beagle Baxter. He has since gone over the bridge... but he was famous for his smiles in our family!! |
this is Kieras crooked , I'm tired with this whole photo shoot thing smile....
Look at her lips, she is smiling in this one... this dog is so happy go luck. Everything she does will make you laugh... she is a goof I will look for more smile photos too... this is a funny thread... I do believe that dogs not only smile, but have a sense of humor too... |
Here's Pirate's big ol' grin! This pic is from quite awhile ago...pre-weight watchers for me....but you gotta love Pirate's smile!
|

LMAO All the pictures are just great !!! I especially love the ones of Roxy and Tasker they just crack me up I wish someone could make a collage out of them, I would hang it on my wall, I will giggle over these pics all day now, thanks for brightening my day |
Cute pics LOL
Here's Bree, seems happy with herself getting soaked and covered in mud And she looks like she is smiling here with a mouth full of snow Here's Ronnie (Boot) smiling pretty for the camera Dancer after having been caught licking red icing off of a birthday cake |
Willoughby smiling for the real estate lady last winter! |
The best smile my Charlie can come up with is usually a little crooked. I think sheepogs have expressive eyes. Maybe that's one reason I like to keep them clipped.
|
Charlie has a great face... and wonderful smile... I just looked at your photos, you have some nice shots of your fur family... thanks |
Here is Ru smiling. He likes his new red festive hairband!
|
here is panda and alex....they adore each other!
|
Peeps absolutely smiles -- not a happy face - a great, big smile.
she does it in the morning when the kids wake up -- and when she is especially happy and you talk all sweet and goofy with her. i guess their just gonna have to add this to the breed standard too. |
Hey Darcy, since Panda likes your neice so much, perhaps next year have her in the christmas photo, and she might not mind wearing the santa hat.... Acutally, I think it was the coconut bra that pushed her over the edge... That Panda girl is such a beautiful baby as is your niece.
All these smiling dogs are so fun, lets have more! |
Here are a few of my smilies.
|
this is Henry's smile.........
