Soldiers and Airmen donate time to fill sandbags Channel 10: Posted: June 8, 2008 04:36 PM EST Updated: June 8, 2008 05:40 PM EST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - As you can imagine a cleanup of this magnitude takes a lot of people. More than 500 Soldiers and Airmen of the Indiana National Guard are providing relief throughout southern Indiana. Today, some of those Guardsmen and women were filling sandbags that can be used to build up levees and other critical areas. At last count, more than 10,000 bags had already been filled. "We have a lot of support from the local community here and we're gonna do our part to help support the community in a time of need," 2nd Lt. Randi Brown, Indiana Air Guard, said. The National Guard says they'll continue to work with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security and local authorities to ensure the needs of the citizens of Indiana are met. Governor Mitch Daniels says he's working on getting more manpower. We've learned members of military police are headed to Vigo County to help local law enforcement. By News 10 Staff (I've not heard of any problems - I think that last sentence is probably to ward off any evil - or possibly give the locals time to rest.???) |
