I went into the kitchen about an hour ago to see a big black cat (i mean a big big fluffy cat) eating out of Murphy's bowl. It has been warm here today so our kitchen door was open and obviously the cat, i think he lives nearby, had wandered in. Had Teasel (my other cat) been about she would have seen him off quickly and i imagine most cats would. Where did i find Murphy though, hiding up the corner of the kitchen just watching the cat, not making a sound or even remotely attempting to defend his territory! He is such a wimp! Teasel quite often protects 'her house' even earlier today she went out to stop our next door neighbours cat coming in the house, at this point Murphy ran away into the dining room to watch her from behind the safety of the window! My husband blames me, i rescued Murphy when he was 6 weeks old and he was very poorly. He had cat flu, fleas, conjunctivitus so bad his eyes were glued shut and had been attacked and bitten by a dog. So of course i mothered him back to health and spent many weeks just carrying him around with me! SO i guess i may be to blame but just thought i would share my 'scaredy cat' with you! |

Murphy figures you are Mom and it's your job to protect the house. He's probably wondering..........gee, Mom's a whimp! |

Hi,
Welcome to the forum! I had the opportunity of viewing all your beautiful furkids - they are all stunning! Your boy was probably scared of messing up your kitchen by having a nasty cat fight. I have a variety of kitties in my home ( I foster special needs/senior cats and bunnies) as well as my three canines and ironically my own male cat is the whimpiest of all. I like to refer to him as a gentle soul. He's probably very much like Murphy. Marianne |
Murphy looks a lot like my cat, Tipup.

Ah he does - becasue of Murphy's black tail i wanted to call him dipstick but didnt fancy shouting that out the back door to get him in! Funny thing is that other than his black tail his only other markings are on the top of his head and back, so he cant see them, to him he is all white apart from his tail so he often starts chasing it and trying to bite it becasue i am sure he doesnt realise its him! Bless - they do make you laugh! |

Tipup's black tail got him his name. A tipup (pronounced tip-up) is a kind of ice fishing setup. It has a line and hook that go under the ice into the water. On top of the ice is the spool of line and a flag. The flag lies flat, but pops up when you get a fish on the line and the spool starts to run. The guys in my family think his tail looks like the flag when he walks around with his tail in the air. |
