Introducing myself

Hi. My name is Tracie. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I've shared my life with four wonderful sheepies over the years.

When I was a little kid we used the Mr. Mugs series of readers in school (I don't know how many people would be familiar with those...) They were all about a sheepdog, and I wanted one desperately as a result. I got my first (an OES/collie cross with a BEAUTIFUL tail) when I was 22. His name was BRANDON (yes, all caps. He insisted...) We lost him to cancer at the age of six, and it was devastating. Our vet suggested that a new pup would be a separate but wonderful joy.

So, not to do anything the easy way, we brought two OES puppies into our lives. They were littermates, and we named them Portage and ThePas (rhymes with creep us...it's a long and complicated story).

For ten years these brothers were an absolute joy. Theeps had so many medical problems (bad knees, bad teeth, bad heart) but had more spirit than I've ever seen. He was a favourite at the vet, and with a few interesting operations, and some regular medication, had a great life. We lost him in March of this year, and I still cry every day. He was so very unique and wonderful.

His brother, Portage suffered terribly without him. It was heartbreaking. He's this incredibly big, gentle soul. He feels things deeply, and is just devastated by so much as a less than kind word, so suddenly being alone was too much for him. So, even though my heart is still feeling like swiss cheese, my husband and I brought another sheepie into our home.

We tried to convince ourselves that we did this for Portage, but we all know that sheepie love conquers all. So now we have a puppy named Hudson who is so full of naughty I'm absolutely exhausted. He and his older brother have become friends, and it's nice to have two sets of paws romping around the house again.

So, we've now spent 17 years with OES, and can't imagine life without them. We are definitely sheepie obsessed, but there is nothing that compares to sheepie joy, and I love having it in my life.

I'm looking forward to getting to know people (and their sheepies) here. I'm glad that I found this forum.

Tracie (and Gordon, and Portage, and Hudson)

Welcome, Tracie....I hope to hear alot of 'Hudson' stories..He sounds like a normal sheepdog...full of joy, humor and a tinge of the devil

I have 2 ...Pearl, about 11 ( a rescue) and Heart, 1 year..then there is Cosmo, my Beardie sandwiched inbetween and a typical middle 'child' with issues!!!

I look forward to lots of pics of your two furkids :)
Hi Tracie,

Welcome to the community. I loved your story!

I'm sorry for your loss of Theeps. As you know a puppy can't replace the hole left behind by him, but the love and excitement probably can be a great distraction. Still in those quiet times...

I look forward to reading about Portage and Hudson's antics... (and maybe something about Gordon here and there).

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum Tracie!
Welcome! I like your interesting names for your dogs. :)
Thanks. They are all Manitoba place names.

Our first, BRANDON wasn't actually named for the town of Brandon, MB, but lots of people talked about it that way, so a tradition was born.

All three since have followed suit and had a famous scientist for a middle name.

ThePas Darwin (the most highly evolved dog I've ever met)
Portage Pavlov (wouldn't you know it...he drools)
and now
Hudson Galileo (time will tell)

ThePas is actually named after The Pas (pronounced the paw) but ThePas (Theepus) is the most common mispronounciation, and made a great name for him. And a gentleman from Texas with a mighty drawl and a very loud voice had just been talking to my husband about Theepus Manitoba (imagine that with the accent, too)! It was fate.

Theeper or Theeps for short.

Tracie
