This is a dog that was placed by Animal Oasis before I joined the group. He is deaf and about 7 yrs old now. The woman who has him decided she can't give him what he needs now. It all started right before Christmas when her son-in-law (who doesn't care for the dog) bent down over the dog from behind and startled it. The dog did bite him but not bad enough for sitches or anything. This dog has never bit before this. Anyway she is so afraid the dog will do it again that she won't let the dog have any freedom when people are around. I will take it back if I have to but would prefer someone with more room or a new home take it in. We have downsized greatly in the last 2 1\2 yrs and only have a 4 x 6 kennel open to put him in. Thanks for any help you can give. Debbie The dog has never bitten before or since, (personally, she should get rid of the SIL). The dog knows hand signals and is well trained, likes other dogs, cats, and spends a great deal of time with the womens grandchild. Debbie said he is the typical Sheepie. I'll talk to CO OES, but meanwhile, would anyone like to adopt a wonderful Sheepie that just happens to be deaf? I'll try to get photos. |

Just finished a long conversation with the current owner. She is heartbroken over the thought of giving Plato to another home. I'm just not good when a conversation involves tears and dogs, but got through it with a much better understanding of this boy.
His breeder abandon him as a pup, being deaf he was worthless. That's when he was rescued the first time. He was adopted by a good home, until the worm turned and the women who owned him had to run for her life. Plato then went to his latest home. Plato's owner has been the best any Sheepie could wish for. When he arrived at her home, he was a mess. She called in a behaviorist and worked diligently. She had extensive medical work done to look for the cause of his diarrhea issue. In the end, he has a sensitive tummy and is good as long as his food stays the same. She bought and read all the books and information on training and living with a deaf animal. Plato is well behaved and understands his signals. There are two reasons she is looking for a new home for Plato. Her husband left and she has taken an extra job, takes care of an elderly parent and is away from home 12 hours a day during the week and a lot of her weekend. Second, her SIL has made her so crazy about the dog, she can't relax. Plato spends his time in the bedroom whenever visitors are in the house, just in case. (SIL has issues of his own) Plato has been a model citizen through all the changes, and it breaks her heart to know he isn't getting the kind of love and attention he needs. From all that we discussed, Plato is a Sheepie through and through. She's hoping to find a home that will take him without a transition foster home. (more tears) I'll have photos tomorrow. |
He's a beauty!

Ooooooh... what a handsome boy.
I hope he finds a good home soon. Until someone can put a text link in this post, you can view his picture by copying/pasting the whole address into your browser, the picture will come up. The exclamation marks seem to be interfering with the hyperlink. |
Is there any word on liking cats? I am guessing that he is OK with other dogs because there is another dog in the pictures with him... same for teenagers....
just wondering about Cats... |

just wondering about Cats... Here's what his Mom had to say; "when I picked up Plato the very first time, we were in a PetsMart and there were kittens in the kennel next to him. He ignored them until he was taken out of his kennel and he then barked and pawed at their crate. I asked about it and Debbie told me he was good with them he just wanted to herd them. So I can’t saw with 100% certainty, but I think he would be fine, other than trying to herd. And that herding is strong in him so I think he would run after them initially hoping to “get them in line”. Still looking for a home for this beautiful boy. |
I need the oes network to kick into high gear. CO OES can't take Plato. They just took in a blind sheepie and don't have resource for Plato.
Please talk to everyone you know that might want a beautiful boy that just happens to be deaf. |
Any word on this boy???
Geesh he is a cutie.... He is okay with kids?? |
I spoke with Michelle last night for over an hour, until her cell phone died.
I think that Plato would do great with me. I have a home office and can be with him ALOT. He is great with kids and Im not worried about my cat. She's great with dogs (she doesnt run) My one concern is getting him from Utah to Phoenix. Any suggestions? |

Doggie relay. I participate on a motorcycle forum and there was a doggie relay from NM to IA. Worked like a charm. Each person drove less than 4 hours and the pooch was in his new home within a couple of days. Wish we were closer to help. Good luck! Hope this boy gets a new home. |

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Dorothy. Now, it's time to find the boy a ride. Any suggestions, please share. Or, if you have time to volunteer, let me know. If push comes to shove, I can drive the boy as far as Knab UT (arizona border). I'm just not sure how soon I can do that. |
I can get up to Flagstaff. We just need someone from the AZ border to Flagstaff. |
I am so excited for Plato
He reminds me a bit of my Wilby (apearance wise) Good luck in the transport... I am sure it can be worked out! Let us know how the fella works out! |
WOW, Dorothy you ROCK I'm in MI so I can't help transport but I bet this forum will figure out a way to get Plato to you, if donations are needed to help with gas just ask and you shall receive |
Thank you for offering. I have also offered Michelle money to help get plato closer. She is trying to get time off work and see if she can bring him here. I think it's a great idea, then she can see my home and Plato would have an easier time.
Thanks again. I can't wait to have pictures of my own. |
I am so happy Plato has found a home. Dorothy - I think what you are doing is incredible. |

has this boy made it yet? I hae a possible ride all the way to AZ for him .
I am in Utah (Salt Lake City area), and may be making the drive to AZ with a friend who is moving to Phoenix this weekend. She is going even if I don't go with her, and might be able to make room for an extra dog. Where is he and where's he going? Is this an OES? Let me know, and we might be able to work something out.
