1. a handful of christmas cards i had just printed out, i left them in the printer in the office and woke up the next morning to find walter sprawled out with shredded christmas cards all around him... very clever walter, look ridiculously cute so i cant yell at you. 2. pine cones. i dont know where he got them from but i got a wake up call from my mom this morning asking me to please clean up the mess walter made. i went downstairs to find chewed up pine cones EVERYWHERE. 3. A stuffed teddy bear with a stuffed candy cane sewed on... he mustve been hungry because he left the bear alone and just destroyed the candy cane. In Walters defense he very very rarely chews anything up, I think all the tasty and colorful decorations are just too tempting! |
|
LOL... mischevious pup!
I don't let my girls near any xmas decs unattended. If I can't watch them but I am home they are confined to the kitchen, if I am not home or sleeping they are in their crates. And even then they manage to get into stuff, usually kitchen cloths, paper towels etc...lol Sheepies are notorious for looking cute all the time, but especially when they get caught being naughty! LOL |
I have told my family to decorate only the top third of the tree when our crew comes bouncing in this year.
Or get a big wreath. |
LOL, our pups have been amazingly well minded with our tree and decorations, although the cats and kittens had a meeting with the dogs, and the cats nicely told them, don't worry we will do a nice job on the tree this year, do not lift that big hairy paw. So, we find our ornaments being used a batting balls. LOL
Tell Walter, to keep the cuteness defense it is working very well for him. Stormi and co. |
Nab picked all the red styrofoam berries off my garland! Left everything else in tact! She hasn't touched the tree or anything else...she has to have the red berries! You gotto love them! |
ok walter my mickey has done some naughty things also 1.he chewed up a powerpuff girl orniment 2.he unwrapped 1 of my daughters gifts(that he gave her) 3.he chewed ALL lids to my daughters (kiddy)fingernail polish 4.he some how chewed name tags off of like 4gifts 5.numberous hair things like ponies and such ok im going to stop this list!!LOL!!it can and will grow!!!my perfect mickey is still my perfect mickey HOWEVER his actions arent perfect! |
I'm really surprised that this year Lennon decided to leave the tree alone. I was more worried about Sofa because she is more stubborn and doesn't like to follow directions.... Could it be that we sprayed the tree bottom with grannic's bitter apple?
So far, only a few pinecones and some nuts that they got from the trees outside are what has been destroyed. |
Well... no damage to decorations this yerar, presents on the other hand... My hubby has a problem waiting for christmas to open presents, the suspense kills him each year, and he's been bugging me for days to let him open his presents...
So now, I think he has recruited Bell to help him out with an under cover present sneaking operation... Bell continues to sit on the 1 present of Mike's that is a big surprise (a gorgeous globe), thereby slowly tearing the wrapping opening each time she does it. The top is left open on the box, because it was too small for the globe to begin with. So I have to inspect the present each time I get home to make sure it isn't open far enough for him to look into it, and sneak a peek! And naturally, all without him doing anything, it Bell's fault! Sigh... Karen |
Be careful with your pups eating things - tinsel, ornaments, etc are a common object being removed from intestines by ER Vets this time of year!!!! It may be just a nuisance - but it can also be dangerous! Very dangerous!
The ASPCA has some information on the dangers of this Season for dogs!!! http://www.aspca.org/site/News2?page=Ne ... e&id=18073 Always being cautious.... Kristen |
Not decorations here, but dragging the presents everywhere and trying to tear the ribbons open.Too funny! |
So cute....but take it from me, an intenstinal extraction is not a fun thing to have to go through!
Happy holidays to all! |
will for me I know enough NOT too put tinsel on the tree or glass orniments, and anything else that would really harm my buddies.however NO matter how much you keep your eyes on your puppers they ALWAYS seem to find something to get into...its funny seems like the puppers who are watched like hawks are the ones who get into the most trouble Kind of like our uprights |
I am so glad Pooh Bear is recovering nicely. Who knew the greenies could harm our sheepies. I read about the many non dog items being chewed on and it is scary. Some of these items could be choked on. Please think safety first dogs are fast and with the many household chores being done this time of year it would not take a lot of time before a dog could find himself in serious trouble. Maybe I am preaching but we have always put our children and pet's safety first, ornaments are replaceable pets are not! |
yes of course our kiddies are not replaceable, meaning our 4legged buddies also, but AS we all know our kids 2legged and 4 will get into things, but i know what your saying be extra careful this time ayr,its funny the orniments altho can be dangerour but lets not forget the many differnt plants that come w/ this time of yr.....pointsettas,mistoel,holly,and even the real tree itself.I make sure I have NO poision plants any where near my house, and as for xmas orniments i have only cloth ones on the bottom,no lights and any breakables on the top. we all know to use common sence im sure Merry Christmas~muuuuuuuuuah~ |
Yes- I also place only non-breakables on the bottom of my tree- although my girls are really good- except for the secret spy present opening thing...
Karen |
Karen your hubby is so cute!!tell him you will hide his gift if he doesnt stop peeking!!LOL!! Karen do your cats climb the xmas tree??like from bottom too top?? |
We went to friends with a baby 2 legger and they decided to only put ornaments with ribbon, no hooks near the bottom...too bad their feline doesn't care where they are! |
Norman has figured out the best way to get attention at this time of year is to be destructive.
He doesn't chew ornaments or candy or cards; he tries to knock the tree over! If he believes that you aren't paying the appropriate amount of attention to him or you don't immediately respond to the outside now! bark, he will look you straight in the face, march straight over to the tree and ram into or under it so that you have to run over and catch it. They are too smart for their own good sometimes! |
Tree???? You guys have a tree??? ohhh I'm so jealous! I thought if I put one up this year the three dogs would think "Hey look at that a place to go in the living room!" Ha! Nope didn't want to take that chance! The four cats would probably climb the tree to get away from the dogs and I can see the whole thing being knocked down! (shudders at the thought.)
Last year when Merlin was a mischievious pup I got a little foot tall one and placed it high on a mantle. Sigh not the same thing as a beautiful nice smelling tall tree. Ahhh maybe next year! |
Ben is the least of our worries. We completely believe our cat Fletch has reached his old age because he looks forward to Christmas so much. Between drinking out of the tree stand, batting ornaments, chewing on the curling ribbon and sitting on all the wrapping paper he's in his glory.
Ben, well he's always been pretty good around the tree. When the kids were little I always wrapped giant empty boxes and put them around the tree as a decorative kiddy wall - and Big Ben wall. Ben has a tendency to brush the tree on his way to the back door and there are always one or two ornaments on the floor in his wake. So far he hasn't chewed anything this year. Half the time he can't find the ball he is playing with (when it's under his feet) - guess he can't see the ornaments he knocks off! Lucky us! |
Tanya- My kitties are really good, they don't climb the tree or even think of it. They don't chew on anything decorative either. When we had a real tree (can't have one in this apartment complex) Iris would drink out of the water... But they pretty much have decided that under the tree makes a really awesome place to sleep, and that is a yearly tradition, which both of them switching off as to who gets to sleep under the tree. That's about it, not even very much ornament batting! I have such good girls!
Karen (Of course, as I write this Iris is probably at home scratching the back of Mike's Chair... Which she has just taken up in the past few days. Guess I'll have to employ the squirt bottle on that!) |
Hi Marianne, We always nailed the tree to the floor. The holes in the tree stand were where my husband put the nails and the tree stayed up with a cat a sheepie and 2 youngsters it would spin from the traffic and we would notice that as the tree top angel would be facing out the window. Putting the tree in a corner helps to. We got a new fake tree it is shorter but it is so full of branches it looks nice a Blue Douglas Fir |
We have an aluminum christmas tree with the spinning base and color wheel. It's a Charlie Brown Christmas at our house! |
Last year at Christmas we were having a problem with Merlin "marking" in the house, so the tree was in a room where he couldnt get to it. This year we thought we would see how he was with the tree.
We have quite a few trees in our house. I was concerned at first that Merlin would try and pee on the real ones. We have 2 real ones, one in the basement family room and one in the living room. The other trees are fake and they are up higher. So far there has been NO problems with merlin and the tree. When they first went up he didnt even go and see what it was. Now he is getting a bit cheeky...he will go up to the hanging ornaments and give a quick lick as he passes by, he doesnt think I can see I just tell him "leave it" and he comes and sits by me. Yup, I am mom the "fun sucker!" The two real trees have no breakable ornaments on them, the tree in my dining room that is up on a table, has the breakable ornaments on it. With 4 small kids, safety is first. We also tie our tree to the wall or the ceiling so no falling trees! We learned that one the hard way. I was 8 months pregnant, had a toddler and a Chow, we all went out and left the Chow at home. When we got home, the tree was laying in the living room and the carpet soaked from the water in the tree stand. Chelsea the Chow was fine. Dont know what happened. But she was ok and after that we always secured our trees so they can't fall. |
Maxmm, I'm envious of your aluminum tree! I've thought about getting one for a while and now it seems that they're coming back in vogue. I guess I'm not as unique as I thought.
Can you post a picture? Jil |
You're still original, there aren't that many people that have them. It was much easier before they were "cool" because stuff was a lot cheaper. Our whole house is decorated in the style of the 1950's so it only seems fitting that Christmas would be the same.
I did find a new tree that I'm thinking of getting after the Christmas rush; it's purple aluminum! If I can get the heathen dogs to sit still tomorrow, I will take a picture of them and the tree together and kill two birds with one stone! |
Ooh! My house is 50's too. Lots of Heywood-Wakefield and I attempted to bring the kitchen back to it's original 50's glory on a limited budget. I stripped the walnut laminate from the cabinets, painted them and put on old handles and replaced the countertop w/Formica with the splattered-colors pattern. The best part is the chrome trim around the counter and the plaid-pattern linoleum I laid. I've also gone back to the Christmas ornaments that my folks used when I was a kid.
The basement is the best part of the house, though - knotty pine paneling w/cocktail wallpaper original to the house. There's a built-in bar too. I knew the house belonged to me as soon as I saw it - original 50's. The screen doors are original to the house, too. Here's Belle in the kitchen after her first bath. Can't wait for a picture of the aluminum tree and the heathens. J |
This is really off topic (well Louie hasn't eaten any ornaments....yet ) But floofdog I absolutly LOVE your kitchen. It's great!!!!
and Belle is gorgeous, too! |
Thanks for the advice Shaggydog I may give that a try next year - alas this year my tiny tree is up on a hutch --just lights, no ornaments and surrounded by gifts with no bows..ha ha! I did decorate the entire house - fireplace mantel, stair railing and on top of the piano with tiny white lights so still looks festive.
Floofdog I love your kitchen!! Those floors are fantastic and match perfectly with your cupboards. My entire house had rose colored carpeting with the exception of the bathrooms and kitchen. I wanted to have a place where even if the dogs feet were muddy I wouldn't have to worry so much. Sooo I took a course at Home Depot on laminate flooring and did my 12 by 17 rec room by myself!!! Oh so proud of me! Lol! I even bought a miter and jigsaw. Yeah a place for the dogs. Only thing is my son put up a baby gate to the entrance so now he has a place to entertain friends without the dogs being underfoot..not that I blame him. Hee Hee Which means I'll have to now do the upstairs living room/dining room in laminate. Groan This home reno stuff is grueling! I then decided to fix up my son's bedroom, and to fix up the main floor bathroom. Took another couple courses at Home Depot and learned how to install a sink and toilet. Painted those walls too. So far I've tackled the rec room, hallway, bathroom , son's room and mine...oh so much painting! Like most people you either have the time or money but never both at the same time. I do a little every evening when I return from work ..so alas it's been weeks of this. Then my bedroom looked rather shabby..hmm I should do that too I thought. Groan my house is such a mess with paint cans, rollers and splackling stuff all over. Good thing I'm now off for two weeks and maybe will get it finished before I return to work. My ultimate goal is to have my entire house in laminate - due to my loveable furballs of course. Only thing is when they get old their feet sorta slide from underthem and carpet is easier. I can see it now in a few years I'll want to redo the house in carpeting again!! Ah forgive me I went off topic. I've always had cats and dogs and never worried so much before about Christmas. The cats recently passed away at 19 and 21 and Blue and Shaggy were old timers whom were well behaved. Now I have 7 creatures in my house...yup 7!!! Daisy,Paris, Mama Kat and Lil Girl - the cats. All relatively young and mischevious - thankfully I have cat doors as I would go crazy letting them in and out all the time. (They are thrilled with the new rec room too - as they can relax in peace without the hairy monsters wanting to play with them!) Then there is Merlin, Panda and Blue and only Blue can be fully trusted. Merlin has once again taken up counter surfing with a vegence...grrrr! Tubs of margerine and sugar bowls are his prime target. Sigh I've talked way too much! Ah well next year they will be older and even better behaved. Until then I can only dream when that day arrives. Marianne |
When we remodeled our kitchen and rec room, we put down ceramic tile in both rooms. They flow into each other so it also made the area look larger. Anyway, we did this so when Truman comes in from the back yard, we don't have to worry about dirty floors. Tile cleans so easily! It seems like we decorate to accomodate our pets! |
Floofdog,that is awesome!
Heywood-Wakefield is so amazing but so expensive! Lots of the Eames stuff in our house very modern upstairs and the downstairs is all tiki lounge. Tree pics tomorrow! |
