Anyone try this? Minty fresh Tumbleweeds...yeah man!!! |
|
Never heard of it, but Lacey, my Yorkie Mix, may be interested in eating a minty fresh tumbleweed. |
I've used it in the yard for many pests. I
can't tell you it was better than a pesticide but it did work. The problem with it is that you need to reapply it fairly often while many of the bug sprays out there now last much longer. I've never been big on enviro-friendly or holistic stuff, but I have been known to be cheap- and it was a cheap solution for me at the time. Shellie |

Shellie I wonder if you added some sort of oil to the Listerine if it would last longer? |
I tried it a few weeks ago at our cottage, which is on 13 acres of woods. So you can imagine the mosqitos! Anyways, I sprayed it around the porch and front door, did not see any difference. Few hours later we got the fogger out, and that worked! Ofcourse didnt smell as nice as the Listerine! |
Well, you're not supposed to gargle with the fogger solution... |
I don't think the oil would really mix with the listerine,
so I doubt that would help. Also, I used the yellow kind, the stinkier the better. If you can find a cheap brand in a dollar store they actually work better too. They seem to be a bit more harsh- and stinkier. Shellie |
hahaha! Well........
Quote: Listerine was invented in the 19th century as a powerful surgical antiseptic. It was later sold, in a very distilled form, as a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea.....
Composition The active ingredients listed on Listerine bottles are menthol, thymol, methyl salicylate, and eucalyptol. Ethanol is present in concentrations of 21.6% in the flavored product and 26.9% in the original gold Listerine Antiseptic. Thymol is an antiseptic, methyl salicylate is a cleaning agent, and menthol is a local anesthetic. At this concentration, the ethanol serves to dissolve the active ingredients. I doubt the concentrations of all would burn the foliage, unless used straight. Even the vinegar weed killer being pushed right now is for a more concentrated vinegar than available off the shelves. It's a special concentrate and probably needs a license to purchase and use. I'm sticking with the proven glyphosate products.......even then I must remove the dogs from the area for hours afterward....especially MO. I was spraying with (fortunately) the weakest cocentration .......turned around in time to see MO coming behind me licking and chewing on the just sprayed plants. ARGH! If Round-up doesn't work on certain weeds, there is a way to make it work better without adding more product. You have to make a saturated solution of ammonium sulfate and use that as your dilute water. If you need more info, PM me. |
Sorry, I should clarify that I call my puppies the "tumbleweeds".
Yeah, using listerine on them, I am slightly concerned about thier skin... Has anyone tried it? It seems like a good alternative to me... If it does't hurt them?!? |
Ooops wires crossed
this really tickled me |
Well, this makes more sense than using it for a weed killer!
Still you have alcohol like products....what to kill the bugs?........maybe. |
