It appears that my puppy Linus is a nervous pee-er. I thought the issue was resolving itself, but I came home today to a wet kitchen floor and an anxious dog after I had been gone for 90 minutes. He's 8 months old. When I first got him, he'd pee when he met a stranger on our morning walk or was scared....and as he got more secure, that problem has gone away. But yesterday he peed on the carpet (when I was home with him 3 feet away) while the scary landscaper worked in the yard. And today he wet on the kitchen floor and his dog bed while I was gone. My family has had five OESes, and we've never had this issue. I knew an OES when I was a kid, Phoebe, who had this problem daily with every person she encountered (friends and strangers) and so we affectionately called her Pee-be. Any suggestions for this quandary? |

I don't have any great advice but Buddy did this until he was about a year old and now it almost never happens anymore. He is a year and a half now, it may stop with age |
Hi,
Having just gone through this with Rodney our latest Foster I have some thoughts... Rodney's submission peeing was due to abuse but.... To start off I would get him to approach me by laying on my back on the floor and "squeaking" like a pup. If he would come over I would reassure "good boy" with the same gentle tone. Gently lift my arm and rub chest. Then I started to kneel and call him, when he came over I would slowly lift my hand from low down and pet him on his chest. If no accident lots of gentle "good boy" praise. If accident moved away cleaned up and said nothing. Then went to feet and greeted in same manner. All the while cuddling with him and reassuring him as much as possible. Never a word if he peed. Whenever I enterered the house I would ignore him without looking for a min or 2. I would then go straight to the treat bucket and give him a small treat saying "good boy" in a very gentle reassuring voice. After about a month we went from lakes to drops to nothing. Anyone coming in the house was told the same moves and the same praise words. 8 weeks later at palooza as everyone can attest no problems. Rodney is 2yrs old and was (from his paperwork) a submissive peeing Pup, With the abuse any loud noise or even lifting an arm would cause a lake. Consistency and love love love worked for him. Bless you Joe |
