Fringe advise

Hi,

I'm looking for some suggestions as to what can i do for Byron's (my 2 years old OES) fringe. I heard from someone telling me that it is best not to cut the fringe around his eyes so that it can protect his eyes from sunlight. Is this true? However, now that his fringe is long, sometimes he can't see properly and knock onto lamp post when we were out strolling. Do anyone have any comments on this? :?

Hi,

No it is not true and OES does not need their eyes covered to protect them from sunlight. You are exactly right, when the hair is in their eyes, they can't see which can be dangerous. Keep the hair up with a clip or trim the hair around the eyes. Byron will be glad you did! He is adorable by the way!

Ann & Phoebe too!
So it is not true that sunlight will harm his eyes if his eyes are not covered! Great! I will go ahead and trim the area around his eyes... Fact is i personally perfer to have his eyes shown cos' his eyes are really beautiful!

Thanks for the advise!
The hair right under thier eyes seems to grow strait up into thier eyes untill the hair is long enough to droop down. My dog is growing out his puppy cut right now and it seems that the hair on the inside of each eye blocks his vision the most.

I don't like big eye sockets. Does anyone just trim between the eyes?
Sure, I've trimmed just the inside, but don't forget they do need side vision too. One of my dogs is blind on one side and I'm always surprised when he fails to react to something on his side....DOH! He's blind on that side.
Abbi has the most gorgeous eyes and unique facial expressions. You can see how intelligent they are after a trimming.

I have some free advise though ... don't trim their lashes. It is very easy to trim their lashes as they are very long and tend to get mixed up in their fringe.
But if you can, don't trim them (top or bottom ones). They protect the dog's eyes from their hair and debris. When they grow back they stick out and don't do their job properly and they itch. The dog will be putting its paws over its eyes for days because they bother them so.
Once you go look, you will see what is lash and what is just hair. Separate the two before you trim. There's lots of different ways to do this.
Also, you can use those plastic or covered rubberbands to pull some of the top up. I like the clear plastic ones because they grab nicely, but don't tear up the hair. My girls and I use them in our hair. You can get them from Wal Mart in the hair section.
