I only put an inch of water at a time ...if that. When she finishes, I will come back (I'm in the kitchen a lot) and fill it up again. Works great ...never have dripping face although we do follow it up with a towel. I guess if you do it enough, they start coming TO YOU to be wiped. Yuki follows me around to be wiped now. |
Thank you for the reply! The strange thing is that Telly will ONLY drink from the bowl if it is more than 1/2 full. Is it is less, he won't even consider a drink. Maybe he doesn't think it is fresh enough? Spoiled dog! |
I also only put about an inch of water in at a time. Luna insists on playing with the little dog reflected in the bottom of the bowl. So we end up with ALOT of water on the floor if I keep the bowls any more full than that. |
I wonder if this will help with Heart and her vomiting (sorry, gross) issue....Almost every time she drinks...it comes back up...I don't think she si drinking too much..but maybe she is... |
pandas bowl has to be filled to the rim because she gently laps off the side of it.....i have rarely seen her stick her whole head in the bowl... |
Kaytee used to lie down next to the water bowl and swoosh her chin
back and forth in the water... sloshing it over the sides of the bowl We put a small towel under the bowl to catch the excess water and would change it a couple of times during the day. Thankfully she outgrew it! We were also thrilled when she stopped digging in the water bowl. http://oesusa.com/213057.jpg Shorter beards, unless you have a dog your showing, will also cut down on the length of the water trail left across the kitchen floor |
How cute is that of Kaytee with her feet in the dish |

Oh gosh! That's Luna! I wish I had a photo of her on her first day home with us. She tried her hardest to get ALL FOUR paws into the bowl. And when she finally managed it? She pee'd right into the water! Needless to say after that first time (which had us in hysterics) we encouraged her to stop doing it. Now we just have the digging in the water. Thing is, I know she sees her reflection, and is trying to get at that evasive puppy at the bottom of her bowl! |
Oh, I've had a couple snorklers. It does seem to run in families.
There's a bowl you can buy with a lid: I refer to it as a donut bowel - maybe petedge or somebody like that carries it - it's been a while so I forget where I got mine. You can still fill the bowl, but since the opening is restricted they can't play submarine in their water dish Some do outgrow it with age. I gave Mad's bowl to her younger brother Once I stopped showing her, she stopped being a pig. Or as much of a pig. Does he promptly and lovingly come over to wipe his face in your lap? Mad used to do it for the simple reason she enjoys playing in water. None of her puppies are as bad, though Sybil used to enjoy blowing bubbles in the water and one of her brothers who shall remain nameless satisfied his water addiction by flinging his entire body in a pond... About half of that litter, including pond boy, used to enjoy playing with the water sprinkler as well. Kristine |

I think you could leave that water in a bowl for a week, out in 150 degree weather, and it'd still be freezing cold when it hits your bare legs!!! |
I love that photo! Summer prefers to come in the front room and drink out of the small dish that is kept (supposedly) for the yorkie. It is a prettier bowl and it tastes better! I have to keep a plastic bottle of water next to it, and if the bowl wants filling she knocks the bottle over and rolls it about. Whereas the yorkie goes out the kitchen and sticks her head in the massive water dish and really makes a noise, and comes out with a drippy chin which she wipes on Summers blanket! Dont forget she has only ever known sheepies so she doesnt know yorkies are supposed to gently lap from the edges of the dish like my others did! |
Oliver is big on face dunkin..
We tried the less water in bowl thing.. but to only olies amusement, the less water means he can pick his bowl up, WATER EVERY WHERE!! So we put up with the wet head in lap. Didnt think of the towel thing |
pick the bowl up!!! ROFLMAO than goodness Summer isnt listening!! |
My boy Buddy never gets water all over the floor. He drinks very slow and I think he tries not to get wet. Our Willow on the other hand puts her feet in it, her whole face and can not seem to get enough of it. She does the digging thing too. She just loves the water. It is really funny to watch but I probably should teach her not to do it seeing she will get bigger and make a much bigger mess. |
I guess we are in trouble with Maggie after reading all the posts. Anything water is just the bestest thing in the world. Sprinklers, water bowl, bathtub and especially the little waterfall in the backyard. We had to put a large rock over the tub that the pump is in because she was submerging her entire head in it and I knew she was going to drown herself. And she loves to carry empty water bottles around. She blows bubbles in her water dish. I never knew a puppy's water bowl could get so dirty in such a short period of time. |
George drinks from the far side of the bowl and ilooks as though he dips his beard to check the level before he drinks |
