NEOESR picnic

Hi:

Just wondering if any of the folks on this list will be at the NEOESR picnic on June 14th. Baxter, Cassiopia and my DH will be there.

Ron? Are you, Joan and Mulligan going to attend? Cassiopia said she'd be glad to share her water dish with Mulligan if he wants :)

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Jennifer, Baxter & Cassiopia

I believe that Joan, Mulligan and I will be there.

I am hoping that my brother and his wife will make a cameo with their non-OES dog since they live very close to the venue (Stanley Park, I think).
Ok...I just have to ask....what type of dog does your brother have?

And yes, the picnic is at Stanley Park.

Jennifer
I had planned on going over but I have to fly to florida to take care of some family stuff and see my dad for father's day.

Maybe next year:(

I w hoping to meet some people from the area too.
Yeah, they used to hold this thing on Father's Day weekend, then they changed it -- I don't know why it's back on that weekend again.

Maybe the parks are cheaper or not booked then.
Yes, it happens that the NEOESR picnic does fall on Father's Day weekend this year, but, the picnic is always held the 2nd Saturday in June.

There is no cut-off date, so if anyone's plans have changed, and you can make it, by all means, please so stop by and join us. The Red Roof Inn, is being more than gracious, we already have 60 plus rooms booked. If more people can make it, they will do their best to accommodate them, and give them our group rate.

We have Placement Directors from 7 OES Rescue groups attending this year!

If anyone needs any information, they can contact me at,
oesmom49@aol.com

I thank you all for your support and dedication to our beloved sheepies.

"it's all about the dogs!'

I may have lost my mind but I made reservations at the red roof. I think my hubby will be along with me .I don't know what our kids will think if I kidnapped their father on fathers day!!!! My problem will be that my rescued/foster lab may be going through her HW treatment ......I need to get her blood work results today.
OO sorry we will miss you!! WHen ar eyou driving up and back - I am only gone for two days to Florida.
I'd like to welcome Kramer's Mom to oes.org as an official poster!!!

I have to believe that finally posting 3 years after joining is a record!

Woo Hoo!

Donna has been the picnic chair for what, three years now, Donna? I think the Sawyers ran it in 2004 and recall they said it was their last after running 10. Was that their last year?

Donna lost her Kramer this year, he was a great dog and a long time blood donor. This year's NEOESR picnic has been dedicated to Kramer.

See ya at the picnic!
Kerry,

Leaving friday am and leaving sun am I feel the need to travel before gas prices hit 10 bucks a gallon Hope this trip is a little more "uneventful" than my last 8O

   :( :( :(

pretty much when I am gone. oh well.
Look I got lost, my windsheld got broke and I returned a day earlier because Jenny was homesick so there was a LOT more to the trip than certain things .Sorry you cannot make it. Maybe another sheepie event (or other breeds we have plenty between us!)
what happened with your windshield? was that after you left for home?
Bob noticed it was cracked when I got home  this will be my 4th windsheild in my trailblazer. Maybe 5th????? My insurence company asked me where the heck I drove???? I am wondering if i will get it fixed before or after the picnic I may break it again on 95.......................
We are coming to the picking too, the whole family!!! Lumpi and I will try to take the CGC test and I also have some documents for the rescue about dog training and maybe we can even do an obedience demo with the boys.

I can't wait to meet you all "new" people! :D

If it makes you feel better I cracked our cars too and have no idea how. AND we haven't had time to have it fixed! You won't be alone! I'm so happy to meet you!!!
At this point, I am driving up from Ocala, FL with my own personal rescue OES, Sebastian with a tail and little Dixie.

Right now I have 2 fosters, a 5 month old puppy and a young male we believe to be her father. Both are very nice dogs. (More details on Petfinder -- see Harold and Mabel) If I do not get them placed this weekend they will also be making the journey with me. I do not want to kennel them and my husband doesn't want to care for them.

Also making the trip will be an OES statue...

I think I will be leaving sometime Tuesday to arrive Thursday -- I haven't programed the trip into my GPS yet. I will be leaving to return home Sunday AM after breakfast.

I look forward to seeing you all.

Marie
OK.... it is official :clappurple:

Baloo will be at the picnic. :cheer:

He convinced us to go along with him too. So the entire Madden Family from Ft Drum will be at the picnic this year.

The Inn was WONDERFUL to us when I called. They gave us the great rate even though I called soooo late (because we JUST listend to Baloo about going today!).
We will be there Friday night and leaving Sun morning....
Can't wait to see all the sheepies! :clappurple:
I can't wait to see everyone. Kata I am happy to finally meet you ,Marie I am glad you decided to make the trip( a 5 month old sheepy girl :D ) We are leaving friday am and returning sun am. Marie maybe we will be on 95 with you.
to everyone going to the picnic - HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!
I'M GOING! I'm so excited!!!! Jan Gutherie and I are going together, although she'll be flying outta Milwaukee, and I'll be flying outta Chicago.

We'll be there sometime tomorrow afternoon (we're stopping to have lunch in Boston).

I can't tell you have much I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!!!

Donna? Did you get the SheepieFest! sponsorship $$$?

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!
Where are you going to eat in Boston???
I don't think we know. I know Legals is great, but do you have any suggestions, that are easy to get to from the airport?

I know we both want seafood.
Will you be driving?
Yep...renting a car.
Legal's has a restaurant in the airport, so depending on your arrival terminal you could eat there!

Otherwise for seafood specifically...
You might want to go to the "No Name restaurant"
The restaurant originally had no name, so this is the name that stuck!

Use this string in Google Maps to get directions!

from: bos to: 15 1/2 fish pier, boston, ma

The Ted Williams Tunnel toll is $3.50 (I think) but they only collect in one direction.

(You will be heading out on the Mass Pike to get west of the city towards the Picnic, so this is basically right on the way as well.)
Got it! We'll probably be there around noon, if you and Joan should happen to be in the neighborhood!
I am reading online reviews about the no name and they aren't all that great. The ratings are extreme; they seem to be either 1 star or 5 stars....

I haven't been there in a long time and now I'm afraid I might have recommended a place that has gone downhill!

Oh no!
No problem. We were told to go to Pier 4. Have you been there?
Pier 4 is a bit of a tourist trap. The food is fine, but nothing special. I'd recommend a smaller place (I'd make a recco myself but I don't eat out much these days, sadly...). There are loads of little Italian places that serve incredible seafood.

This place has a good rep: http://www.dailycatch.com/323hanover.html

And these places are all well-known:
http://www.10best.com/Boston,MA/Restaur ... index.html

Not sure if I can go to the picnic (I'm new 'round this forum and just heard about it) but I will try.

Enjoy Boston!
Pier 4 is generally good food, expensive prices.

Driving around/parking is an issue on Hanover Street (mentioned above).
If you want really good Sushi, let me know. I have THE place to go.
Hi,
I was in Boston yesterday, for the day, visiting my top accounts. I went to the Intercontinental Hotel, by the Congress Street bridge across the water from the Boston Children's Museum, for lunch. I am usually not a fan of hotel dining, but my account assured me they had a great raw bar. Well they Do!! We had an incredible selection of clams, oysters, mussels, shrimp, lobster and king crab legs. It was AWESOME. It was not inexpensive, but for the amount of food we got it was a good value. The only drawback is it takes more than a half hour to put the order together. When it comes out it takes three waiters to bring the selection to your table! It is presented beautifully. If you want somewhat of a splurge I would highly recommend Rumba's at the Intercontinental Hotel for their raw bar. If the weather is good you can also eat outside.
Kathie

P.S. When are they going to get rid of the burned out Boston Tea Party barge. Its been there in its burned out state for 3 years now!!
You mean 235 years!!! ;) ;)

Maybe another 2 years before the museum reopens, I didn't know the fire damaged structure was still around. I haven't been in the area for a while.

Have you tried Durgin Park?

In the "secret" dining room? ;) wink wink, nudge, nudge
Off to the NEOESR Picnic! I wish everyone could join us.

I hope to take a picture or two.
I did!

Click on my Camera. Sorry they're not all in order.
Looks like it was a fun time. :D :D :D

Interesting hats....

What was the grooming about? a demo, or people could get their dogs done? or ??

Besides the sales and hat contest, were their any other activities? Just wondering, as our basset rescue is always looking for ideas that are popular with the attendees!
Grooming demo and "get your digs nails done as part of a demo".
There was a CGC test.
Usually there is an agility course, but not this year.
There was lunch!

Lots of chatting. As I was sitting hanging around, a very hot lady showed up at my table and proceeded to accost me by wrapping her arms around me and asking "Are you Ron?" Well, not necessarily in that order.

It was Debcram! Wow! She's a hot ticket!
Then I was introduced to her traveling companion .... it was Jan Guthrie! Later, I attempted to introduce myself to her for the second time, but she was verrrrry gracious in reminding me that I had already met her!
Then it was Marie Harrington and her son! She drove all that way just to come visit me! Hot babe in a hot SUV loaded with hot pups!
Then I saw Jennifer! I found out she has been helping NEOESR quite a bit more lately... (and it shows, thanks Jennifer!!!!)
And then Cindy (4dognight) ! Of course when I met her, she had a label on her face, but she couldn't hide that huge smile!
Kramer's Mom was busy as heck keeping everything going, and it was a great event in memory of her Kramer.
Joan and I kept a spot open for Kata next to us at our picnic table.

Got to say "Hi" to TTKristen and her dogs, and Bill Hitz was there and probably a few more, but I missed his_armywife and Baloo, and TheGrangers if they made it.

I was surrounded by forum friends!

Grannie Annie and I got to chat for a bit, and Joan and I made plans with her to have lunch with her and her husband Ted soon. We chatted about Chester and you wouldn't believe how many people are working to place him into the perfect home. We have someone (Karen, I believe, who is a trainer and was running the CGC test) who lives just a few miles from the shelter ready to help pull and transport a bit.

The weather was OK, it wasn't too hot but it was overcast most of the time, there was the roll of thunder for a couple of hours and we got a few very light sprinkles. But a couple of 100 foot tents protected us from the rain.... not sure how those giant aluminum poles would have fared in a lightning strike! Sure glad we didn't have to find out!

A great time even though it seems that attendance was down a bit... they really have to ensure this isn't on Father's Day weekend in the future, and a reduction in gas prices might be nice too.
Nice photos!

Attendance was down??? Sure seems like a lot to me.

I like Joan's uniform!!!

Ron, when you say "hot", do you mean "hot" as in attractive or "hot" as in heated???
Ahhh, I saw the picture of Cindy - glad to hear it is just her nametag!
Cindy - I was thinking - "what did you do now??" :D
It looks like a fun day was had by all!
The sticker would not stick to my sleve(sheepdog hair all over me!!) so I stuck it to my face!!!! I had such fun!!!!!
:D Baloo had tons of fun. He loved meeting and playing with soo many great sheepies!! He especially had fun with Zippity, Monty and Sophie!!

 While there Baloo got his Canine Good Citizen :yay: We were so excited ~ I almost did the happy dance right there at the picnic!!!!!

Thanks to all those who put soooo much work into making it a success. We had fun and are looking forward to next year's already. I know that a lot of work goes into planning these events and I want all those involved to know we enjoyed it and are thankful!

** I have pictures from the picnic too ** click the camera....
Hello Everyone,

I personally want to thank each and everyone for making this year's picnic a huge success. I truly hope that you had a great time. I apologize for not having enough time to spend with everyone, but, someone has to keep things semi-organized....LOL.

I finally have the attendance totals and we had 158 uprights and 116 dogs, what a picnic we had.

We were very grateful to our Rainbow Bridge babies, for holding the weather off till the end of the day, see they do watch over us.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for honoring my Kramer at this year's picnic. You have no idea how deeply you have all touched me, it was such a moving tribute to a special dog who did so much in the name of Rescue.

I have the Red Roof Inn in West Springfield, Ma. already booked for next year's picnic, and Stanley Park as well. Again it's always the 2nd Saturday in June. I'm sorry, but, it has not fallen on Father's Day weekend in quite a few years. It might happen again next year, I have not looked at the holiday schedule for 2009.

The picnic date for next year is June 13th, 2009.

To anyone who expierenced the picnic for the 1st time this year, please let me know what you thought. I'm always looking for feedback. I thank you all again for your participation, hope to see you next year, and remember, "it's all about the dogs!"

Donna Couture

Thanks, Donna!

We had a great time.

Father's day next year is June 21.
(Father's day is the 3rd Sunday in June)
Someone asked about the grooming demo. There were three people there doing demos - Sandford and Kay Woodard of Twickenham Old English Sheepdogs and Kelly Piscatelli (sp?). Well....not only did they demonstrate how to groom your sheepdog (and Gareth is absolutely gorgeous - I think there's a picture of him on the NEOESR website under the picnic pictures), but they would also put your dog on the grooming table and trim him or her down and give you instructions as they trimmed!

Kelly (who fostered Cassiopia before I got her) trimmed Cassiopia for me....and told me that I was much too tentative with the sissors :( . And Sandford trimmed Baxter for me (he also told me I needed to trim off more fur). Both of the dogs looked sooooo much better :D Hopefully I'll be able to keep them looking that good. But if not, well I'll be back at the picnic next year to get more tips!

If you didn't have a chance to take advantage of these people's experience this year...come to the picnic next year.

Jennifer, Baxter and Cassiopia
Great photos! Looks like everyone had a fun time. I always enjoy seeing the hat contestant photos. Those folks are so creative. 8)
OH MY GOSH! Did I ever have a great time!!!

I just got into work, got back from Boston a few hours ago. So, this will be short, but I will write more (and post pictures) later.

I met sooooo many wonderful people. My brain is still spinning...and I am still smiling!

Ron, it was great to finally meet you and see with my own eyes that you are NOT a bot! I didn't realize that other man with you was your brother. Oh...and can I tell you all how nice and cute Joan is?????

I really feel like I left there with a lot of new, very good friends. I'm so happy to have all of you in my life!

Until later... (hot me  )
