The Monday after Sheepiepalooza for Nita

I'm posting this here since all you witnessed Nita's poor swollen hand/arm over the weekend that she smashed before she came down to St. Louis. I think it was on Sunday afternoon that I was teasing her about the possibility of amputation and today I got a message that she was in the hospital. Of course, when I read the message, the only two words that stuck out were "amputate" and "hospital" and it scared the crap out of me! Thank goodness, she still has all her digits but she's all hooked up to IVs and the other (swollen) arm is stuck straight up in the air with some sort of heat/circulation/torture device to help the swelling go down.

Luckily, Nita is super tough (obvious by the fact that she still made it for the weekend) but I'll bet she'd still greatly benefit from well wishes from everyone for a speedy recovery so she can go home and, most importantly, take her arm down from traction!

Nita, best wishes for a speedy recovery! I'm sure a few shots of Scotch will take your mind off the pain.

Jill, do we have an official diagnosis? Is it broken? Infected? How did she smash it? Was Nelson involved in all of this mayhem???
Oh my. Nita speedy recovery.
OH dear :( Hope she is better fast. Cellulitis?
Get better soon Nita...sheepie hugs from my two. :ghug:
:(

Thanks for posting Jill.

Nita - here is hoping for a speedy recovery. You were a trooper this weekend.

I think I remember hearing that word.

If I remember correctly, I guess that's the official diagnosis? No, I know Nelson wasn't involved. It was some sort of household injury. I chose not to dig deeper since it looked like it hurt her worse when I talked about it. 8O
I would be worrying about a deep vein thrombosis especially if trauma was involved, but I'm sure the docs already looked into that...
Jill - do you know if there's anything the rest of us can do rescue-wise to help since she's pretty swamped right now?

Thanks!

That's great of you to offer, Kristine. I'll ask her when I talk to her next and report back.
Are you seriously offering to give her a hand?

Terrible. Just terrible. (Where's my emoticon for kinda funny/kinda flinching?)
Jill,

Which hospital is Nita in?

Please pass on my best wishes. She was such a trooper this weekend. I am so glad she made it to sheepiepalooza. It was so great to see her Nelson, Wild Angel again this year.
Ah, we talked about the hand right before we both left on Monday morning.

It is infected and swollen. Her plan was to stop back at her dr's on the way home and have them look at it. I felt that the ABX were wrong and they should do cultures, all that good stuff.

Apparently they concurred. IV ABX would have been my choice too.

Get better Nita, take some good pain meds to get you through the crappy time until the ABX kick in and kill those bugs.
oh my! Get Well Soon, Nita!

Sick! Just sick!!!

No, but I'll offer to take four paws off her hands if that's what she needs and foster somebody for her if that would help.

Thanks, Jill. Give her my best and let me know.

Kristine
Jill,
Tell Nita she's in my prayers for speedy recovery.
Poor Nita :) . Hope you're feeling better soon.
She called me and it is cellulitis and she is getting morphine (really good stuff) She hopes to be out of the hospital today I will call. Nita you are a trooper!!!!!
I am so sorry to hear about this Nita. My prayers are with you for a fast recovery. You have been a very good friend to me. I will never forget all the talks on the phone. :ghug: :hearts:
Oh my goodness!! Nita you really are a trooper. That cellulitis is nothing to mess around with girl. Hope the meds are helping and you get better quickly. We're thinking of you.

If you need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask!!
Oh No!!! Get well soon Nita!!!

Sheepie Hugs from the UK
Wow! I'm so sorry to hear about Nita. I hope she has a speedy recovery.
Get better fast Nita!
Poor Nita! That sounds horrible. What is cellulitus? Get well soon!
The morning Nita report: her hand is looking much better. The swelling is going down but the doc wants to keep her one more day to pump some more antibiotics in.

Over and out.
Cellulitis is an infection of the tissue under the skin. It can start with something as simple as a scratch or bug bite, but is usually a bacterial infection and often requires hospitalization for IV antibiotice to get rid of it. I can be difficult to treat and for some reason once somone has cellulitis they tend to get it over again (but not ALWAYS).
Sounds awful, I hope Nita is feeling better soon.
A hospital stay for cellulitis sounds like it could cost an arm and a leg.

Poor Nita!!!
Nita,
I hope you are feeling better soon.
Sounds painful. :(
Get better soon!
Nita - feel better.

Kisses from Ralph.
Nita-
I wish you a speedy recovery and I hope the pain subsides soon..... :(
I noticed the brace on your hand and figured well, something happened, but didn't know exactly what....had no idea it would have landed you in the hospital....That can be a scary thing.
Get oodles of rest and I wish you well.
You are a tough cookie and you did an awesome job at SheepiePalooza on Sunday....

Michelina~
Nita- Remind me not to mess with you (guess those April Fool's jokes are out)! You are one tough cookie!! Wishing you a speedy recovery...

Tasha
Seems to me that there is something odd about being in traction like that, but I just can't get my arms around it at the moment.
Hope your feeling better Nita, sorry to hear you ended up in Hospital, speedy recovery :D

Nita carefull ron is ARMed with lots of HANDy material for weeks and weeks of new jokes.
Late to this thread, but sending best wishes to Nita for a swift recovery. At least she's got morphine.
Oh geez! Nita, get better soon! Glad the arm didn't spoil all your sheepie fun this weekend.
Nita, get well soon! Take good care of yourself so that this bout is fully cleared up.
Nita,

you need to take better care of your extremities.....poor baby!! Hope you feel better...ill call you later !!
Has anyone got an update?
Yeah, she's still stuck there. The doctor still wasn't happy with everything yet so she's still bolted to a pole with her arm in the air. Word on the street is that she is not happy. :(
I hope Nita is feeling a bit better. If it is cellulitis that is so so painful I had it in my foot and no pain relief touched it......
Get well soon Nita.
Oh Nita,

I hope you get some relief soon :ghug:

Cindy and Guinness and the crazyacres gang
OHHHHHHHH!! Poor Nita.....

Please feel better soon.......Hugs ..... :ghug: and sheepie kisses   from Heart and Pearl......

(we are sending you white healing light too!!!!)
So, so sorry to hear she's still not been released. :( I know when my dad had it several times in his leg, he was hospitalized for more than a week each time. It's nasty stuff.

Hoping for relief and release for you soon, Nita!! :plead:
Nita, I'm so sorry to hear this! I am just catching up with this thread and I swear I can feel your pain from here. Morphine is WONDERFUL stuff - had it when I was in for my last back surgery. Wished I could have taken some home!!

Know that we're all here praying for a speedy and full recovery.

Or a dog bite . . . . and I've gotten it again. It's serious so you recognize the symptoms within hours and can stop at the ER in Findlay, OH on the way to NC, leaving your sheepdog in the car while you tell the ER folk you just want the antibiotics so you can be on your way . . . .

Nita, I hope you're feeling better now!

Im BAAAAAAAAAAAAck! And they DID send some morphine home with me! :go: :go: :go: Vicodin, Percocet, et. al. didn't quite do the trick.

Jill, didn't I threaten bodily harm to you if I saw this posted???

Yes, it is cellulitis. I have Scleroderma/CREST and was on cytoxan for awhile but now on prednisone. Definitely did a number on my immune system! One of the hospital staff said she ended up in the hospital from cellulitis by razor nick on her leg!

I was a really bad patient. "Patient" is such an oxymoron when used to describe me. I loved the docs and all but one of the nurses. Unfortunately, she was there twice in the 3-1/3 days I was there. :x

I was impatiently waiting for my dismissal papers and threatening to just walk out. My car was in the parking lot and I had help carrying my stuff out. I told my sister I was going to pull the IV set out myself if they didn't show up soon. They didn't so I did. 8O Nurse Cratchett comes by and sees it out and says "Good, someone's taken out your IV". I told her yes, I did it and was going to go AWOL if not discharged immediately. They only kept me that long because I needed the four prescriptions. :o

So, now everyone knows I'm "normal" again  Ron, I'll deal with your awful puns later, when I'm back to two-handed typing. Jill......I know where you live!!!!

Seriously, thanks to all for your care and concern. You guys are the best!!!

Nita
Oh Nita, you are one of those delightful pain in the arse patients!!!!

I am glad to hear you are on the mend and not in the hospital anymore. Just remember (shameless brown-nosing) that I posted nothing but a few simple condolences.......while I could have really really let loose!!

:cheer:
Glad you're OK and out of the hospital!
what a pissy patient you are...all grumbley....sheesh.....
Nita, it sounds like you are back to your old self. We were worried about you girl.

Jill I would run if I were you.

Yeah, I'm a medical disaster. I'm sure Jill can outrun me any day.

And Dawn, I'd bet with nurses like you, Cindy and Ginny (and some of you other forum nurses) I'd be happy to follow instructions. The one I had problems with was borderline clueless. There were some fabulous nurses there and it was a podunck hospital in my little home town. I love all you guys and can't believe you put up with what you do.

Hey, who wouldn't be ticked off when told they're being admitted for "overnight observation" and end up staying for more than three days? Even DH hates to be my nurse. (sigh) Imagine that!
:yay:
Nita
I am so glad you are home!!!
Hope you are all healed up soon.
:ghug:
Good to hear your home and feeling better :)
I can't quite put my finger on why you think my puns were so bad, although I really have to hand it to you for being so patient with me.

WEEEELCOME HOME!!!!!

I'm sooooo glad you're doing better.
Nita, I'm so glad to hear you sprung yourself from the hospital. I am glad you doing better. Go Morphine!!!
glad to hear you are out!! hope you are feeling better soon.

Kerry
Happy to hear you're home and feeling better, Nita!! :D
:yay: Good news! Hope you continue to recover quickly!

Don't be too hard on Jill! We need her around. She has a soft side you know!
Welcome back! Hope you are back to 100% soon :)
Oh my gosh, Nita - I am just getting into the oes link after a few days and was shocked to read about your injury. It is amazing how such an insignificant injury can turn so serious and painful. I am so glad you are on the mend - get rest and get better.
Glad to see you are out and feeling better!
Yeah, I've been out of the hospital for almost a week now (tomorrow) but my hand still hurts and is very swollen. They wanted me to do occupational therapy right away and I told them no, I wasn't doing it. My fingers are so swollen, I just physically cannot do the exercises they wanted me to do. Besides, it hurts like @%** afterwards.

Today, my rheumatologist confirmed that therapy needs to wait awhile. :-) Believe it or not, I have a pretty high tolerance for pain... or I wouldn't have made it to St. Louis in the first place. Unfortunately, my orthopedic doc said if I had not gone, I may have been okay. Nah, I don't believe it. Not likely I was going to spend the weekend with my arm elevated over my head in a sling with a warm water blanket on it UNLESS I was in the hospital.

I've progressed as far as being able to now type with two hands again. Mostly working on getting our most recent flood of OES placed but wanted to thank everyone again for your kindness and well-wishes. And your tolerance through my not-so-cheery demeanor in St. Louis.

Nita
I'm so glad to hear your doing better. By the way, I didn't notice any not-so-cheery demeanor.

ditto
sounds like you are back to your perfect Nita self
Glad your home Nita, the hospital and nurses thank you.

Now from someone who might possibly be older then you, do as your told!!!!!listen to your maybe elders? 8O and get better soon.

Take it easy and make a full recovery, we are thinking of you. :D
