Yes, the first thing is to get your boy! You will have a chance to evaluate him and to get opinions and help before the fall.
I'm so sorry you are going through this. |
Is there anyone around Minneapolis that could get there before me? I would be open to pay I still have to let the Navy give me time off. |
I am about 30 minutes from Minneapolis. I am home all day and could pick him up anytime!!!! I have a big yard and huge kennel and a house filled with dogs, kids and cats. He is more than welcome to stay here until you get here. |
Do you know where Northfield is? My mother lives there and could meet you there. My mom cant take him in she lives in assisted living but she could manage to rescue him. I will call her tommorow and if you would like to exchange contact info I work the night shift here at VX-1 and I cant chat over Government computers but I can send you and email. |
I sent you a message with my contact info. Email me, you can have your Mom call me also so we can set up a time and place to meet. |
Will do and thank you. |
Thanks for stepping up to help this Sailor!! |
I am so glad I could help him out,I am kind of exited about it. I know I probably shouldn't be because he is not being taken care of and it's so sad but I just can't wait to get him here. I can't imagine how he must feel being so far away when all this is happening. I hope we can set it up today it must be horrible for him and Aurthur. I'm not sure what kind of condition his coat is in but if he has been in a pen with goats for a month I would think it's not good. So I will be giving another bath soon. I asked him if he is all matted up if he would be ok with him getting a new hair cut......I will find out today.
My Buddy is going to be so exited to have a big playmate for a while Little Willow is really going to outsized now |
You should be excited about it!
Yes, this poor guy isn't getting the proper care, but his owner cares enough about him to do something about it, and you care enough to help him out. It is exciting to think of the wonderful future this pup will have, just because a few people care. I believe the saying is: Even on your worst day, you are still someones best hope. Good Luck! |
Wow! I can't wait for an update on this story. Thank you Buddy's person for agreeing to help out like this! Stephen -- so sorry to hear what your Arthur has gone through. I am so glad you were able to find out and that you came here for help in getting him out of that situation.
Looking forward to pictures of Buddy and Arthur playing. . . |
Honestly, isn't the Internet wonderful? This couldn't have happened without this forum. But most important, Buddy's mom is the wonderfullest to help Arthur. He'll be in good hands! |
OMG I am nearly in tears, this forum is so fantastic, please keep us up dated...if you wanted to write a story about dogs, and rescues you just need to be on here...xxx |
This is so nice!
People on this forum are ready to help when it is needed! I wish good luck to Arthur and Stephen and to Buddy's mom! |
Hi Everyone,

Well, I am in tears!
It is almost 3 in MN and time for the happy meeting! Way to go Buddy's Mom! |
Arthur is lucky to have such a concerned owner and a great temporary home with Buddy and his family |
Pictures, of course, will be required! |
How cool is this??? I am so glad he has a safe place to be. I can't wait for pictures!! |
I can't express how much I am thankful for the help I am recieving. The folks on this website are absolutely wonderful people. If you compare the posts to the reply time it is absolutely amazing that my Arthur is getting helped this quickly. Now I am just worried about how bad of shape he is in. I will let everyone know when I get news that he is back in safe hands. |
I just got off the phone and Arthur is in safe hands. My mother is crying right now on the phone. But Arthur is safe. |
That is terrific! I am looking forward to hearing all about him! |

What wonderful news for you, your mom and especially Arthur.
Thanks buddythesheepdogliveshere for helping out this sheepie and his owner. |
this story gave me goose bumps |
Hi Everyone,
We are home! I just got off the phone with Stephan to let him know how Aurthur is doing. Let me tell you what a wonderful boy he is. He is beautiful even with the dirt and mats. I just love him already, he is so friendly and just a joy to be around. My heart aches seeing him like this. I am so glad we were able to get him out. He is very very emaciated and full of ticks but otherwise very happy. He now has a full belly and soon will have his flea and tick bath I am trying to be careful on how much he eats since I am sure his stomach has shrunk, I don't want him to get sick. Stephan's Mom Laura is a wonderful woman, her heart was broken watching Aurthur go through all this. My heart goes out to her. Everyone have a woderful evening. I am going to look for a roll of film....yup I said ROLL lol My children somehow lost my digital camera.....grrrr Christina |

I totally agree - the internet is such a lifesaver in this respect. Think of all the dogs who couldn't be saved pre-internet days. And how fortunate are we to have found our pets through the oes rescue links. Without the internet almost 6 years ago i wouldn't have Patch - we were both lucky to have the internet resources or probably wouldn't have found one another. |

I think this must be the nicest group of people on the internet. Thanks so much for helping Arthur in his hour of need!
I think we all worry about what would happen to our beloved companions should anything unanticipated happen to us. Its nice to know that in a worst case scenario, that people like the ones here exist, and are willing to help! |
I am so happy to hear that Arthur has arrived safe and sound and a warm cozy place to rest his head, He has a tummy full and people around him that will give him what he needs. Thank you so much for stepping in and saving this sheepie boy. You have given Stephen, his dad, peace of mind. We are proud of you Christina. |

This is such a heart warming story!!! Christina, you are an angel, thank goodness Stephen and Arthur have you! I look forward to seeing pictures of happy sheepies playing. |
This is just one of the greatest stories I've read in a long time. Christina - thank you SO much for stepping up to the plate to help Arthur. And Stephen - how great is it that you can relax now knowing your boy is in good hands! |
Thanks, again, Christina! You're now a rescue angel with brand new wings.
Stephen, now you can rest knowing your sweet boy Arthur is in good hands, resting, with a full belly and soon to be cleaned up and flea & tick free. What a wonderful rescue story. This community ROCKS!! |
What an amazing story. Christina, your awesome. Thanks for saving Arthur. Stephen, thanks for caring for your little guy so much! |
You guys are so sweet Thank you for all the kind words. I had never rescued a dog before Arthur, what a great feeling. I can't even decribe it. My heart is happy.
Here is the morning update. Last night could not have gone any better. All the dogs get along great. Arthur is still trying to figure my 2 out, they get really roudy when playing. He is really starting to come out of his shell and wants to play. My daughter gave him one of her stuffed animals last night, he felt really proud carrying it around He had his bath last night and was very good. I pulled about 20 ticks off him total though out the night. Today I am going to shave his legs which are all matted, I don't think I got all the ticks off yet. Once I get all the mats off he is going to need another bath. He LOVES all the attention. He has not had one accident in the house, Yay Arthur. He even went and slept with my daughter for a little while last night. Have a great day everyone:) Christina |

I really shouldn't read these stories at work. Tears are not professional!
I'm thrilled that he is safe and happy. I hope that he continues to enjoy his new friends until his dad can come back! |

This is just a wonderful story, and I hope you both will continue to keep us posted on Arthur's story. Bless you for stepping in to help, Christina, and good on you, Stephen, for going to the right place to get it! |
Can't wait to see some pictures when you are done cleaning him up. How wonderful for Aurthur and Stephen you could be there for him, and that he is so easy to get along with. Makes my heart happy too. Sheepies hugs from my two. |
What a wonderful group of people you all are You simply rock. Stephan must be so happy to know his baby is in good hands. Thanks so much for the happy story. It's so wonderful to hear good news |
Just wondering how the boy made out??
Updates are welcome! |
Oh Christina, I just read this post for the first time. What a wonderful story and what a wonderful person you are to have stepped up to help this puppy and his sailor Dad!! WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!! |
What a wonderful story to read, and to know that there is still good and loving people around. |
Hello,
Sorry I have not updated in a while. Things have been quite crazy here, but in a good way. In stead of having 2 sheepies in the bathroom with me I now have 3, my bathroom just is not that big Arthur is doing so much better than when I first brought him home. He now is full of energy and on his way to being healthy again. He is no longer dehydrated! In some places where his skin would sink in between his bones he is now plumping out. If that makes any sence lol He is still very skinny and it is going to take a while to get him back to where he was but he is deffinatly starting to gain some weight. Some of his cuts have healed up. He has figured our routine out and now fits right in. We had a lot of rain and storms here over the weekend so now I have 3 dirty sheepies and 3 sets of footprints on my floor lol I kind of like it He is starting to figure out how to play with my dogs and know it is ok to do so. I guess he was not allowed to play. It is so wonderful to see him happy and feeling better. He has not had one accident!! YAY I don't expect he will. Stephen can not wait to get here and see his boy. I can not wait to see how happy Arthur will be to see his Dad!! |
This is such a lovely thread it has made me come out in goose bumps.. |
It's so wonderful Christina...but where are the after pictures? We want to see!!! Sorry, sure you are busy. |
Wow, don't know how I missed this. Tammy is right, you earned your rescue wings in spades! I can't even imagine what Stephen went through knowing the horrid conditions his boy was living in . If you need to fatten him up you can supplement with BilJac or make him these:
1 lb ground round 1 egg yolk a few tablespoons of molasses enough oatmeal to hold everything together a little flax seed or wheat germ Mix everything and make smallish size meatballs. Freeze until needed but serve raw, just a few a day. |

I know he is feeling better now that Arthur is safe with me but I know he is still worried about his boy! Thanks for the recipie I was wondering if this is something I could make as a treat for my healthy 2 as well? Ofcourse if it can put on the pounds I would only give it as a treat to them. Thank again |
I am also in MN, actually only about 45 minutes from Northfield.
And, I was out in NY and the Cape while this was all going on - weird! Glad to hear it all has worked out!! |

I dont know what kind of damage has been done to his health from not being cared for. I dont know what I am going to do. Any advice would be great...
Christina...you did a great thing taking in a dog you felt was in need! I am just curious...does Stephen have somewhere to take him now? Have you talked to him? I understand that he doesnt want to lose his dog but, a 6 month quarintine is a long time for a dog.... I am certainly not saying you did anything wrong just wondering where he will end up! |

Hello, I was wondering those same things and wanted to make sure once Stephen got him back home he had a plan to make sure Arthur would be ok. Stephen and I have talked about it and he is working very very hard to come up with a plan so he can keep him and take the best care possible of him that he can. I have also mentioned all of the wonderful OES rescues that are out there so if he decides he can not keep him he would go to a good place that would take good care of him. We talk daily about Arthur and the progress he is making, also about his plans once he gets Arthur back. I feel he will do what is best for Arthur. Thanks for asking. I was wondering when that question would come up |
Stephen, how much time do you have left to serve? Is he from a breeder who may be willing to take him until your discharge? |

When I first read this, I had to go back because I thought Stephen was in prison, lol. Oops. |
was just curios why stephen would give up his dog to his sister if he wasn't leaving until the fall? |

Wonderful story and thanks to all involved for making me smile. Marianne |
Hi Stephen.
Have you been able to make arrangements to get Arthur back home? |
Hi Christina.
Waiting for those pics. You must be very busy. Would love to see the before and afters. I'll bet the baths felt good....hope someone took pics of that! |
I took some pictures tonight of Arthur. I did not get any from when we first got him here, I wish I would have because he looks so much better now. I will take some more tomorrow after he is done at the groomers and then get them all put on disk:)
He is gaining weight like crazy!! His bones are not sticking out as much. I can still really feel his hip bones but it is much better. He has so much energy and is so happy. It is a wonderful sight to see. |
wow...am i behind or what??!!
this is just another example of the beautiful people on oes.org... hope arthur is continuing to do well! |
I posted some pictures tonight. I'm not sure when they will be up but hopefully soon. You can click on the camera thing to see them....I think lol
Arthur did so wonderful today at the groomers. I would like to put a HUGE THANK YOU out there to Brooke. Her daughter is in the same 1st grade as mine and are good friends, this is how I know her. She owns her own grooming shop and did Arthur today FREE of charge because of his situation. Stephen was going to pay so she did that all on her own and 3.5 hours of her time!! Arthur looks and feels much better now!! Have a great night!! |
Awww!!!! He looks so happy. I am so glad you were there for Arthur and Stephen. His daddy will be so happy to see how good he is doing with you. You are an angel!!! |
Yay Brooke! |
He looks great----
I am guessing he is at the perfect weight, what does the vet think? A skinny sheepie is a happy sheepie! |
Donner's Mom wrote: He looks great----
I am guessing he is at the perfect weight, what does the vet think? A skinny sheepie is a happy sheepie! He actually has not gained enough wieght back yet. It is really hard to see in the pictures but his chest still caves in and his hips are still sticking way out. He has about 15-20 pounds to go before he is back to the 65#'s he was at when Stephen dropped him off. It is so hard to see in the pictures!! He does look a lot better than he did though |
Ouch he is only 45 pounds??
I think some sheepies have a high metabolism... not many! I have one of the tallest sheepers in the world!! He gets five cups of food a day but, he is so active that he just stays skinny! Believe me Murph is not hurting for snacks either... Mr Counter surfer! He is just skinny by nature! Sometimes they are just not plump! If Arthur was in with goats was he chasing them all day?? That may keep me thin... |

I wish I had legs like that!!! |
PLEASE tell me Arthur has been properly vetted now?
I didn't know you had a young pup on the properly until I saw your pictures. |
Quote "she just would throw a cup of food over the fence when she felt like it/" This statement brings tears to my eyes. I can't imagine that little sheepie boy wondering what happend to him that he wasn't being fed like his Dad fed him....searching for food. I want to ring his sister's neck.
My Asia was not treated as harshly, but she was also food deprived before we took her in. Not feeding your dog just breaks my heatt. I hope he puts on weight soon, but I'm sure he now knows that the people taking care of him now, will make sure he has food to look forward to on a regular basis. Hugs to sweet Aurthur. Thank you for saving this sweet sheepie boy. |

I beleave all of the compassion you all have felt for this story is quite commendable!!! But I am sorry that you all, have been very misled. Including you also, Christina. Lets start with the beginning of this forum. Stephen wrote asking for help because his mother told him alot of lies. Stephen never checked to see if what he was told was true, if he did this forum would have never happened. It is true Stephen is in the Navy. What is not true is the reason he left Arthor with me. Stephen got evicted from his apartment in lexington park, MD because Arthor was over the allowd dog size. Stephen looked into flying him to me and decided to drive him even after I offered to pay for the flight. I took Arthor to my vet with-in 3 days of him arriving.(It only took so long because it was over a week-end.) I had the same concerns as Christina about arthor's weight, but my vet assured me Arthor was fine because the proper body look was that quite similer to a greyhound. After Arthor's vet in MD faxed over his vet records we found out Aurthor was not up to date on any of his shots. That explains why Stephen would not fly him. Arthor is now had all shots and even vacinated against lime disease sence we do live on a farm out in the country. Aurthor also has had 2 trips to his new groomer because Arthor had not been groomed for a long time before we got him and his coat had to be taken down to about 3/4 of an inch long but we were able to leave his head longer so he still had the sheepdog look. Another thing I would like to clarify is Arther and the goat pen. Lets start by telling you that the goat pen is aprox. 6 acres. has not only a specific dog house in it, but also 7 goat houses that Arthor or our blue heeler Rocky or our 2 dachshunds all of whitch enjoyed playing out there, could enter. There is also 2 watering tanks with lower level acsess plus a favorite of Arthor's.. the creek!!! Arthor loves water!! Arthor loved his big blue ball... When you put the two togather Arthor was in heaven!!! Arthor when taken from us had an invisable fence collar on. If Arthor was expelled to the goat pin why would I invest in a 100 dollor collar to keep him into our 1 and a half acre yard?? Don't forget I have only had Arthor sence the end of march. I also have had Agusta dog trainers to come in to my home to help with some issues that arose when Arthor had arrived. Oh another thing Christina you should know is that Arthor was quarintined by the rice county sherriff about a month and a half ago for biting. Feel free to verify that. Stephen Had agreed to pay for all of Arthors vet, groomer, food, and the E.R. bills for the bite. He has never sent a penny. If Stephen would have just called me to question what his mother had told him he would have been able to contact Arthors new vet, groomer, other relatives, a local rescue and feed mill where i have taken Arthor several times because he likes car rides too. He could have easily discredited his mother. I feel sorry for you, Christina. I am sure you had the best intentions but was misled by an mentally unstable woman with a criminal background. I have 3 children one whom was very very attached to Arthor who does not understand how or why her grandmother could do this. I should have said, no one understands exactly why or the intentions behind what our mother has done. I have contacted Stephen and he has the info to verify all information plus more I have stated. He is aware of our mother's mental status and of her misleading past. Christina I encorage you to take Arthor to a vet if you have any doubts. I also encorage you to contact my brother or me for the proper documents you need he has my phone number and he may at any time give it to you. I will get you all the proof you need, then you might also see he was never mistreated nor uncared for. Thanks so much for listening, the so-called bad sister. |

All I know about how you treated him is what I have been told. Honestly it does not matter what you or anyone else says about how he was treated when he was with you because I have him here with me and I picked him up when he had just come from you house and I SEE what condition he was and is in. NO DOG should ever have the wounds he did on him such as about 30 ticks total I pulled off him, the numerous puncture wounds he has on his legs which are healing quite nice now, the very large scrape/burn he had under his eye or the scratches on his nose. I also belive NO DOG should have his fur/hair matted to where it is pulling on his skin FYI it was so bad we had to shave to the skin. I had to cut a mat off his face that was bigger than my hand, Between every toe was matted, His ears were completely matted, he had sap and other stuff all in his hair, the hair on his stomache was matted to his skin! I also belive NO DOG should be starved!!!!! He is 46 pounds here now, he has gained weight since I brought him home! His chest was caved in, all his bones were showing. We had to wait a week to get him groomed because he was TOO skinny. He is gaining weight now that he has FOOD!! There is more but I htink you get the picture. I do not care what is going between you and your family. My concern was Arthur!! You had him in your care, YOU!!! You were the one who was suppposed to be taking care of him, YOU!! You did NOT do this, this is why he is NOT with you. As far as him biting someone while he was with you, I hope it was you and I hope it hurt!!!!!! Now Leave me alone because I have no time for someone who treats animals the way you did Arthur! |
Oh my, now this is getting REALLY interesting!

And Christina- you are doing such a great job with Arthur! So glad he is in good hands now, please keep the pictures comin! |
I am not going to reply to any lies that my sister has posted. Arthur is safe and thats all that matters. |
We are all glad that Arthur is safe and know he is in good hands. Christina, you are doing a great job!!! You KNOW what shape he was in when you picked him up. He obviously was living in the wrong environment...so glad you have him now!!! |
I am trying to be very biased here....
I have only done rescue for 5 years but, the first thing we do is have them vetted! All parties involved seem to care about Arthur. What is best for Arthur? Well, just my thoughts are if he has puncture wounds shouldn't he be on antibiotics? What type of punctures? I think the sister is trying to do all that she can to ensure Arthur is safe! If he is so skinny maybe somebody should check for intestinal parasites! Geseesh it happens... Maybe Cynthia you should talk to his sister off line--- There are always two sides! I am sorry that he did bite somebody...who knows why but, PLEASE don't ever wish a bite on somebody....only the dog would suffer from being a dangerous dog! Good Luck |
OK, Arthur is safe. Maybe we'll revisit this on reunion day. |
