Emmett has a tumor removed from under his ear, near his jawline about 2 weeks ago. The results came back that it was malignant. The pathologist said that "usually excision is curative" and "the possibility of metastisis cannot be ruled out". The vet seems to think the margins were all ok. Here's my question to everyone: I'd like to take him to an oncologist to be sure that nothing else needs to be done right now. I adore my vet but this is one of my babies that we're talking about. He's not sick at all. The vet showed me how to check his lymph glands regularly as she said the lymph glands and/or lungs would be the first place it would spread. Am I overreacting or would you all make an appointment with an oncologist too? Any information/suggestions would be warmly welcomed! Thanks, Betsy, Bailey & Emmett |

Well, I guess I'd like to see an oncologist too. Just to be sure we didn't miss anything. Then, depending on what he said, I'd go back to my regular vet for routine check ups. |
Oncologist, though I am biased because I worked for an Oncology group for years.
You want the latest and greatest info on what to do and what to expect. Take the slides, copies of any radiology films and history with you so you get the most info out of the visit. |

Yes, I would. Cancer is scary. If you can afford it, I don't see the downside. |
Everyone,
Thank you for confirming what I had already suspected - I was hoping to hear the advice you all gave me. I will be calling today to make an appointment. Valerie, I am so sorry to read about your recent loss. Sometimes the right decision is also the hardest decision to make and I admire and respect you for the inner strength you have that helped you with this decision and will help you make it through this tough time.
