My boy Ollie is 6 months old now and weighs 70lbs (33 kilos). We have just had his fur clipped down as the very hot weather in our part of Holland at the moment is causing a flea and tick problem in the woods where he loves to go walking. I am surprised at how thin he looks without the coat. His height at the top of his shoulders is 24 inches and he looks really ungainly and out of proportion now. We've had Labs before, and a Spaniel and a large standard Poodle but this is our first OES. Do those height and weight dimensions sound OK for a 6 month dog to people with more experience of the breed? Will he fill out over time? He's a lovely dog. Thank you. Lee The Netherlands |

At six months, my boy was about the same size yours is now. He weighed around 65 lbs but I don't recall how tall he was at that point. He's 3 1/2 years old now (wow that went by fast! ) and full grown. He weighs 98 lbs and is 31 1/2" at the withers. He finished growing around 20-21 months old. He's starting to broaden out in the chest some now. So, I'd say your boy is about right for his age. Yes, he will fill out. They do look gangly as they grow. But, in my opinion, they always look skinny after you cut their hair. It just takes a while to get used to seeing them that way after having them in full coat for some time. |
Chewie is 2 years, but otherwise he is the same as your boy.
He is 24 inches tall at the withers and weighs 72 pounds. Yes, he will look lanky and slim. My dog is all muscle and no fat at this weight. Don't worry!!! |
