sounds more like he may be licking himself. |
If he's young, it could just be puppy hair. Sun can definitely burn the hair. You could always try a conditioning mist with sunscreen in it but trim the dead ends off first. |
I don't think he is licking himself bc it is more on the backside of his legs... I'll try the mist.
Thanks! |
Puppy coat will "burn" and turn brown worse than adult coat but that's probably what the browning is. Usually the worst spot is along the spine. |
It is the puppy coat. combined with the sun exposure.
It took Chewie forever to turn to a grey, and he had the nasty brown tint form the old puppy coat that would not leave! It is a combination of old puppy hair and sun damage. We had to be super faithful to keep him out of the sun - quite a pain! If you are not showing him, no big deal. If you are showing (as Chewie is) then he can NOT be allowed to spend time in the sun. Chewie's was brown all over, worse by the elbows and hocks. Still problem areas, actually. |
No I don't plan on showing him... I was just making sure this was ok. maybe I will just try trimming the damaged hair. |

Yep, that is what we did too. Sometimes that is needed to get rid of it and get to the new growth. |
