How reliable is the test to future behavior? Has anyone had any bad experiences with the test? We are trying to decide between two pups and the behaviors are close but the differences are interesting. One is more licky and more ADD (loses interest) The other is more responsive to stimuli and better score on retrieving. |

I'd be interested in hearing what the breeders on this forum use, if anything. I used to use the Volhard tests a lot when assessing rescue dogs, but don't really put a lot of faith into it, now. Like anything, it hasn't remained current, so still has some old-fashioned aspects to it. For the puppy evaluation it is better than nothing....but I wouldn't put hard cash on any results..
As for the two things you have indicated, they are like my Bosley and Dixie...Bosley being more licky and easy going, like the first puppy...with Dixie being very reactive and attentive. I guess it depends on what kind of dog you want. The second one would appear to be easier to train, and maybe more intense, I would think. Let me dig through my stuff to see if I have any other puppy temperament tests you can try. |
