If he's an older dog, I'd worry about the stress that it's going to put on his front end. Are his front legs strong enough to support his whole body? Don't forget, even though it takes the pressure off the back legs, he'll be carrying a heavier load in the front. I looked into it for my old girl, too and realized that she's never be able to carry her entire weight in the front for long.
I've seen wiener dogs go like crazy with them though! |
i feel your pain my old girl we carry around too.. she gets so annoyed when she trys to keep up the with young ones. it breaks my heart.. |
I got a wheelchair for our first OES, Shakespeare. He absolutely loved it. When he was in it, he was able to go for his beloved walks again. Not only that, he managed to chase....and tree squirrels while in the wheelchair.
There are a lot of places that supply wheelchairs for dogs. We ended up getting one from Eddies Wheels http://www.eddieswheels.com/ mainly because they were within driving distance, answered their phone when I called and took the time to answer all of my questions. One thing you need to be aware of, when your dog is in the wheelchair, you MUST be around to supervise. Once Shakespeare realized that he was mobile again....he went everywhere! The only thing that I regret is that I didn't get him a wheelchair earlier. Good Luck Jennifer, Baxter & Cassiopia |
It's very encouraging to read about Shakespeare's
experience with his wheels. It seems that if you can get them mobile again, it would improve the quality of life. Thanks for sharing this and also the part of supervising them to keep them safe. |
