Nana has cateracs (sp)

We live in the Poconos, PA. and our 3 year old sheepie has cateracs (sp?)

Does anyone know of a vet that would operate on her eyes? There are days she struggles........and I want to give her all the chances her brother Buster helps her outside but she would really love to see.

You may want to contact the Philadelphia Kennel Club and ask for the name of the Doctor who does their CERF clinic. I believe he is an eye expert in the Philly area.

You should also sign up here on the forum. No spam or evil tricks and there are tons of us PA people on here!
Thanks, I am already a member but I am at work and forgot my password. Nana has such a hard time we can't move furniture around because she will bump into it. You have to watch her outside or she will run in to wood piles and of course me. She has plowed us down a couple of times. But we still love her

Is there ever a PA get together.
Um yes, we just had one 2 weeks ago!!

There is a Philadelphia picnic on May 17th. The link is in the playdates section, I believe. I'll see if I can locate it.
Here it is! http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=19373
And here's a couple of pics from our Harrisburg get together: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=19730
Has the vet said why he thinks they formed in such a young dog? Diabetes is one cause, also inherited problems. Your vet should know of an opthamalic vet.........if not, I'd change vets! It's their job to stay in touch with specialists......this is way behind your vet's knowledge. You may have to contact a vet med school for help.

Cure is same as with humans, surgery and replacement lens. It is expensive due to it being microscopic surgery. Eye sight is good afterwards but not as good as with humans.......only so many replacement lens are available for dogs vs. humans.

I hope you can help your pup! I had as St. B go nearly totally blind from cornea injury and disease. He got around OK, but not great. Steps were beyond him.
There is a really great eye specialist in Medford, NJ. I know it's a bit of a hike from the Poconos, but he is top notch and quite reasonable. He just did eye surgery on my neighbor's boxer's eyes because of some rare breed-specific eye disease and she's doing great. He also is OFA accredited as a CERF doctor. He's very knowledgeable and is very sweet too.
