My pup turns 6 months this week, and I'm a bit apprehensive because I've scheduled his neuter in 2 weeks from now. Anything I should be prepared for? I suppose it's a good idea to give him a bath the day before, any reason not to? Also, do you feed/water him well before the procedure, or do you risk him having to relieve himself at an improper time? Thanks for any advice, I confess that I'm a little nervous. |

The dr will give you instructions but with anastisia they usually recommend you hold off on food and water so that they don't throw up and choke on it during surgery.
Many people have recommended putting shorts on the dog to keep them from licking their stitches. I am sure you will get other good advise. Good luck! |
My vet does surgeries 1st thing in the morning, and we are to give nothing to eat or drink after 10pm the night before. Just as in people, risk of vomiting and aspiration are the reasons for that.
I usually do bathe mine 1st, even though they will not look like it after surgery! Being clean before surgery is a good way to cut down on infection risks. I have never needed the cone or shorts here, but it is something to think about. Good luck. |
You've gotten good advise so far. Just wanted to wish you luck. I'm sure he'll be fine (and so will you!). |
Also, is it a good idea to exercise him vigorously the day before? (So he'll be calmer before and after procedure?)
BTW, Thanks to everybody! |
He will be tired just from the surgery itself. And then droggy from the pain meds. I wouldn't exercise him any harder than normal. |

BTW, Thanks to everybody! No need to. He can just be "normal" before, and the anesthesia will make him groggy afterwards. I would just plan a regular day before his surgery. |
