These are so good, it's hard to stop eating them. This recipe makes about 4 dozen....in someone's universe. I end up with less. 6 tbs. softened butter 3/4 cup sugar 3 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 3 cups flour 1 Tb. baking poder Beaten egg Prehead oven to 350. Lightly grease 2 cookie sheets. Beat butter all alone for 15 minutes. Add sugar and beat for 5 more minutes. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add vanilla, baking powder and half the flour. Continue adding flour to make a soft, non-sticky dough. Knead a few times until smooth. Pinch off pieces and roll into pencil thin strip, about 5 inches long. Fold in half and twist into a rope. Place 1" apart on a greased cookie sheet. Brush top with beaten egg. Bake 20 minutes or until golden brown. Once you master the basic, then you can get fancy by adding anise or almond instead of vanilla and a bit of ground almond in place of a bit of flour. I used to make holiday versions by flavoring with cinnamon and maybe another sweet spice like allspice. |

Oooh, sounds like something I need to save in my recipe file because my mom LOVES these sort of "cookie" type things!! I remember when we were overseas, we had some at a restaurant except it had sesame seeds sprinkled on top. I liked it! Thanks for the recipe. My mom called the other day asking me for something to make for her friends who are coming over to celebrate her getting an new house ...I bet she'd like to make this.
Random: so parents got a new house. it's typical to bring over a gift for the person hosting ...house warming present. i asked my mom her friends will be getting. she said her friends are bringing over laundry detergent. I was like WHAT??? She said it's good luck in korea. something silly about the more bubbles (laundry detergent) you use the first few loads in your new house, the more luck it brings the home and family. I like all the different traditions she has told me growing up, but this one was just strange! |
Now see I'd bring champagne.........different type of bubbles. |
