Advice about barking and new people

Hi There everyone,
I have a 1.5 year old Male OES and soon will have a 8 week old female OES. My issue is with my male. He has always been wonderful to train and other than this one issue he is perfect. I wanted to check in here and see if anyone has or had any issues with this and can offer some advice.

When someone comes to my door he barks very loud and agressivly which is fine but when I tell him to stop he does not and if he gets out he runs up to the person barking loud and sometimes jumps on them. This scares everyone since it does seem he is going to attack and he is big, I know he is not going to attack but they do not. He does not bite and after a while will settle down. He does not like when someone new comes over and is very protective of his house and his people. Right now I am telling him to stop, sushing him and then when he does not stop squirting him with a spray bottle of water. It seems to be working ok but I was wondering if there is anything else I could try. I also do not want our new puppy to pick this up from him.

Thank you so much for your advice and have a great night:)
Christina

he needs to have a place to go to on command. you shouldn't open the door to peopl until he is in that place or at a minimum in a sit.

I think after some training I can get him to do that. What should I do if he get's up from where I told him to sit? Should I comlpetely remove him from the room or put him back into the place I told him to be in and repeat the process until he stays?

Thank you so much for your advice. I think that will really help a lot.

It's nice to hear I am not the only one with issues like this. Our ups guy will not even attempt to deliver anything to our door anymore. He leaves it on the mailbox so I have to watch when I am expecting something. The poor meter reader watches the house for a while before attempting to read the meter. It's hard when you know how they are and no one else does. :)

I would remove him until he learns what is expected. and guests can be told he can come out (if they are willing) - but that if he jumps they ignore him and you remove him)
I would definitely try to get this under control before you get the puppy because they do learn from each other. I have three, and each of them paid no attention to visitors as a puppy, but picked up the overly zealous guarding from the older dogs. Now I keep two pan lids handy so I can bang them together to get their attention and get them to stop. They feed off each other, too, once they get started. Good luck!
