What is her age/weight?
How much are you feeding her?? I just switched to Canidae and have noticed smaller/less stool. |
im showing smaller stools but loads of them just she cant stop going! its an all day thing taking her out to use it some days she poos up to 7-10 times a day just piles and piles, the vet claims its not IBD or IBS or any of that. im gonna try a grain free diet next i wonder if its the fiber in canidae or wellness. Were gonna give one of the grain frees a try and then after that im probably clueless!
She is one year old She is not a sheepdog, my sheep dog is fine, this is concern for my poodle. shes about 12-13ibs only eats one cup a day. CLUELESS HERE! |
I would cut back on the food and break it up into smaller portions. Frequently the packages suggest way too much food.
12-13 pounds and 1 cup? That does seem like a lot - my 85 pound dog gets at most 3 cups of Wellness. |
i tried to even fast her for a day the vet wanted to see if she would still just keep going , she did she went 10 times even without eating a whole day and night! I will try 1/2cup then. But i dont even know if it ll help |
I still suggest that you cut back on the food, and break it into 2 or 3 smaller portions, but maybe others with more experience can give you some better suggestions. |
I agree with Ron.
Canidae is a very digestible food. I know the reccomendations on my 75-100 pound dogs is at most 1 2/3 cups a day! I did the same thing with my 65 pound sheepie. She was on Royal Canin Fish and Potato and she was pooping all the time! I was giving her over 4 cups a day and when I cut back less poop. Fasting for a day may not give you the true defintion. Just my thoughts Good Luck! Kathy |
My 6 pound min pin eats about 3/4 cup of Canidae. My 28 pound terrier eats 1.5 cups of Canidae. Both are lean dogs.
The bigger ones - Simon the 47 pound basset eats 2 to 3 cups daily. Maggie the 45 pound coonhound eats 2 cups. Chewie the OES eats 3-4 cups and he weighs 72 pounds. All are on the fit and trim side too. Mine poop the same amount on Canidae as they do on the other foods in my rotation. |
Do you free feed?
Unless you have a young pup or a dog with special needs, consider 2 scheduled feedings per day (ok this with your your vet FIRST). A couple of snacks are fine but NOT meal size snacks. Tiny size snacks instead. Then be certain you monitor her weight so you can adjust the amount of food per feeding so your dog maintains a healthy weight. If you control when it goes in, you'll have SOME control over when it comes out |
