From the info brought up from that phone number on Google, I found this horrific site. http://lycos.oodle.com/sale/pet/-/pet_b ... og/?s=date Well, let me temper that a little bit. It does have ads from Petfinder, although how they get from Petfinder to here is beyond me. There are 175 dogs listed FOR SALE on this site alone!!! Ron, take particular note because on page 2 towards the bottom, it shows the same dog's picture from the same "breeder" whose litter is due in June and they are for sale in Worcester, Springfield, and a few other areas in your backyard. AAAACCCCKKKK!!! |

Looks like this site just "scrapes" info off of other sites and repackages it. |
Thanks for the info Chris!
I have had dealings with that guy before. He used to be a BYB years ago, with a horrible attitude who cared nothing for the dogs but now it looks like he's expanding and making even more puppies! For as many dogs as he makes, he must be exporting them or doing a lot of internet sales because I think I've only run into one or two people in the area who have his dogs. (Oh and they are just lovely! Note the sarcasm!) Ron, what benefit does lycos get from pulling all that info and spitting it back out? I've seen several sites in that same type of format for furniture and the like. Are they just doing it for the hits and ads? |

Other sites have done the same to this site and it really affected the number of visitors coming here. Somewhere out there someone else is probably still doing it. It requires a constant vigilance. Whether or not it is "legal" to do it is up in the air. At the end of the day, Google kind of does the same thing; it publishes a snippet from your site and give people a link to the page. Some sites publish small snippets without a link, that's probably still legal. Others republish wholesale tracts of material and with or without a link is likely not legal. That site is borderline in my personal, non-legal opinion. They provide a grouping of info from many sites and publish a synopsis of each which is probably OK, but then republish the image as well. I feel that crosses a line from being a directory to being a copyright infringer, but others might disagree. If they were republishing from my site I would probably request that they remove it. |
The ads from Elmira, NY and Binghampton,NY are both very close to where I live, Elmira is only 25 mins. away, and Binghampton about 40 min. away. I may call and find out, I have never heard of any breeders up that way. |
