On the 20th she was taken to the groomers so she would look pretty for thanksgiving. On the 27th she was brushed out by me (we do it every friday or saturday), but on Tuesday I thought she looked pretty scruffy so I brushed her and thought "wow, that alot of hair that's coming out." Last night I brushed her again for the same reason and couldn't believe how much work it was. Not so much her back end but the front where it's white. Again I just finished going through her for 3 hours and filled 2 grocery bags with hair... and i could keep going. My questions... do you think there might be something wrong with her? Should I take her to the vet? Should I go through her with a de-matting comb to remove as much hair as possible? Or should I just keep brushing and hope it's due to her cycle? I am really concerned because she's never lost this much hair and anything that anyone can offer would be of great help. |

There's probably nothing wrong - but why don't you call the Vet and ask them about it. It may be relative to her heat cycle and hormones ??? It could be an allergic reaction to something from her grooming??
Is she okay other than the shedding? Does her skin look normal? How much is she bleeding? Put your mind at ease and call the Vet - they'll let you know if there is something that she should be seen for. Good Luck! Kristen |
I think it is probably due to her heat cycle, but you should call the vet to be on the safe side, that is a lot rather suddenly. Also, I would suggest calling the grromer and ask what products they used on her, she may have had an allergic rection. Does her skin look normal? Any rash? Any redness? Scaliness? It could also be a fungal infection, like ringworm, though ringworm causes circular spots, mange is an all over one that she could have picked up at the groomers. If no medical cause can be found, perhaps try adding some egg and oil to her food once a week. Many people feed the egg raw, but I always cook it because I don't want to take any chances with salmonella.
Keep us posted! Good luck! |
Thanks so much for your suggestions... i called the vet and she saw no reason to be concerned at the moment. since her skin looks normal she told me to just keep brushing so she dosen't become matted. she thinks it's hormones related to her cycle and if it continues for more than 2 weeks after then i should bring her in. I also called the groomer and she said she used the same products as always.
Thank you again. |
Yeah, they often do blow their coats after a heat cycle.... I'm glad that's all it is. |
