panda gets ''damp feet''....they have sweat glands on their pads....so, when its hot, she sweats.....i bet if you smelll her feet, they will smell like fritos too!! |
Yup, exactly what Darcy said
Being nervous can do it too. Quote: i bet if you smelll her feet, they will smell like fritos too!! One of our vets mentioned a few weeks ago that the frito smell is normal. Darby's feet smell like fritos sometimes. Quote: Dogs also have sweat glands on the pads of their paws and on their noses that help keep these moist and functioning properly, the eccrine glands. On the paw pads, natural micro-organisms living in the surface layers contribute to the typical odor of dog paw pads, which is a little like the odor of Cheese puff snacks! This odor is much more noticeable on dogs with moist paw pads than on those with dry pads. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Conten ... ourceID=61 |
what are fritos? |
Fritos are fried corn chips, heavily salted. |

They are an American <?> snack sort of along the lines of a potato chip - eh, crisps? - but I think perhaps made of corn instead of potatos? My Norwegian grandmother was quite appalled that my (American) mom would let her children eat something that smelled like stinky feet Mad and Sybil will leave sweaty pawprints on rubber matting in training class. I had one instructor keep telling me that it signified they were nervous, but these are both confident albeit high-drive dogs, especially Mad, so I always thought in their cases it has more to do with excitement level. But, yes, they do sweat from their feet though I've never seen any of my other dogs leave prints, even when hot. I'll pass on checking for stinky paw smell; thanks for filling that in for me. Kristine - not a huge fritos fan despite my early errant upbringing |
Now I notice Edgar with Frito feet all the time. But he has never left damp prints before. So that is why I thought it odd. Emma seems to only mysteriously get them right outside the sliding glass door when she wants in. Or at least that is only when i notice them. As for her having Frito feet I haven't noticed that yet.
It would be pretty funny if I end up with two dogs, one with stinky feet and the other with nervous wet feet. |
OK...funny little aside here....
EVERYTIME I mention something I read about on the forum, my husband razzes me with "Did you read that on your 'My dogs feet smell like Fritos' site???" What a loser.... (Him, not me....c'mon guys!!!) |
We all need to send you empty Frito bags so you can put them in his shoe closet then you could say, "Gee, now your feet smell as good as the dog's." |

He is not at all anxious about ANYTHING and I don't call him high drive - until the "on" switch flips and he turns into Super-Chewie! But yes, he leaves damp prints on the mats at school, on pavement, etc. And he has Frito feet - big time! |
