Quote: I just noticed them a few days ago, and she is a healthy weight, so its not too bad Not all worms are visible with the naked eye. I've never tried over the counter wormers so I can't share any info. Just wondering if you could call around to see what the cost is to check a stool sample for worms, then simply drop it off. Then compare prices for a prescription. Quote: Panacur is used to control and remove roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and Taenia tapeworms.

I know it's expensive It's more so to treat heartworms not to mention the risk. There is a generic version of heartworm meds called Tri-Heart Plus which also treats and prevents round worms and hook worms (if this is the type of worms she has). BUT... a blood test is required before the med will be prescribed. http://www.triheartplus.com/competitive_price.html http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... atid=11093 If you are having problems affording care (and I'm very sorry about the fire ), you might contact your local humane society or shelter to see if they can assist you in finding lower cost care or possibly recommend a wormer that doesn't require a prescription. |
we had a bout of this in the fall one of my pets for sure and had to do all pets. Pills at the vets, you can usually walk in and give them there weight and they give you meds for the day and then again 14 days later. Here in Canada for 70lbs around $18 for first round. It does kill off right away and then again 14 days later to make sure. |
Maybe you can find a Humane Society, or just explain your situation to a vet. Many will help out when they can. |
My vet allows us pay a little at a time if we need to. Maybe you could work out something with a vet, explaining your circumstances.
I am really sorry about the fire--and glad that you are ok. |
I have gotten the deworming tablets at Petsmart and they do work.
But I would take a stool sample to the vet to be sure what kind of worm it is. Your vet shouldn't charge you too much for just a stool sample and it shouldn't really require a vet visit. |
