Hi,
Welcome to the forum and I'm sorry you are experiencing this heartbreaking diagnosis of your beloved Lizzie. I also don't have any experience with this either but we're all here to offer support. Belly rubs to Lizzie from me. Marianne |
LIzzie is 6 years old. We noticed a problem with her vision quite some time ago, but the other symptoms are fairly recent. The worst ones are when she gets "lost". Sometimes she will just stand in one spot, usually with her head pointed in a corner. but other times she will panic and go crashing into thing. Liz has never been healthy as an adult dog, she has a low thyroid. Prognosis for a brain tumor isn't good- they say that with treatment, the life expectancy after the onset of symptoms is about 9 months to a year. Thanks, everyone, for your support. It helps just to converse with other sheepie lovers about Liz's condition. On a happier note, for those of you who may remember Cooper (Cooper's previous owner developed allergies and couldn't keep him), he is doing great, loves running and playing with the kids. |
One of my good friends in our basset rescue group ( a fellow board member) had a young male basset with a brain tumor. He was in pain and developed severe, unreasonable aggression. After several bad incidents, some which involved bites, and prolonged seizures, he tearfully was put to sleep.
It was a very sad day. |
I'm so sorry about Lizzie |
So sorry Lizzie has this condition. The only thing I can say is that our dog we lost last year, the vet was treating for a pancreatic condition but after 4 days of failing to respond she died. Her temperature shot up and there was nothing they could do. The vet said it was probably she had a brain tumor as well, but she showed no classic signs.
Sorry my reply is absolutely no help to you at all. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time. All you can do is be guided by your vet and by your knowledge of Lizzie, and to whether she is in pain, unhappy, quality of life etc. Best Wishes to you and your family. ps post on here about anything there are some lovely folks and they have been where you are now and can shelter you with their kindness. xx |
I am so sorry to hear about Lizzie....i dont have any answers, just some well wishes to you and your family.....
its nice to hear Cooper is doing so well! |
My sincerest sympathies... |
At this point, she doesn't appear to be in pain and hasn't shown any signs of aggression. I hope it doesn't get to that, we have small children here all day long. She's grown up with having many small kids around all day and is very gentle and tolerant with them, but we are very aware that her condition could change that. My hope is that she will just go to sleep on her own and never exhibit any signs of pain or agression.
Thank you all for your kind words of support and sympathy. |
