Good news: Yesterday I was officially accepted to my doctoral program in Instructional Technology with a cognate of Industrial Organizational Psychology (wow, that's a mouthful). Next step, narrow down my dissertation topic! Annoying news: I was on my way home yesterday and had to take detour since a pivotal part of I-75 is closed down. I had to take an familiar detour on a minor freeway where, unbeknownst to me, the speed limit was only 55. I got picked off going 30 over. Ouch! I turned on the charm and I only ended up walking away with an impeding traffic ticket. No points, just a fine. I'm thankful that I didn't get the real ticket but annoyed I got caught at all. I have to wait until Monday to find out how much the fine is, I think between $75 and $150. Hence, annoying news. That is all. |
|
Congrats on the good news!
On the annoying news, at least you didn't get any points. |
The silver lining AND THEN the cloud!!!! Awww...so sorry...
Quote: Instructional Technology with a cognate of Industrial Organizational Psychology What exactly will be your career when you complete this?? I don't mean to be obtuse...but..I really would like to know[/quote] |
OK, GOOD NEWS FIRST:
WOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO CONGRATULATIONS! even though I haven't CLUE what that is all about EIGHTY FIVE MILES AN HOUR??????????????????????????????? The EMT In me has to say YOU DESERVED A TICKET! |
Congrats on your acceptance...woo hoo! On the other hand, downer on the ticket...all they really want is the revenue anyway.
(reading you list the highways brought back old memories. ahh) |
thats awesome, congrats! let us know when you pick your dissertation topic, sounds interesting (and nerdy ) |
Jil, That is fantastic news!!!! Congrats. Not only do you have beauty but brains too...sigh we should all be so blessed.
As for the ticket...blah to that! Marianne |
Congrats on the doctoral program! |
Wow, look at you! Ms. Smarty Pants That's awesome news and I'm excited for you! |
A real cop stopped you? Wow! Around here it's by camera......by the time you've spotted the camera on a pole, little trailer or the Police SUV parked along side of the road, you are dead meat.
On the other hand, congrats getting accepted to the program! I'm thrilled at your energy! |

I don't mean to be obtuse...but..I really would like to know There are actually quite a few different areas of specialty that you can go into with this type of degree (university faculty being one of them no matter what area you choose) but my emphasis is on human performance improvement in the workplace so my ideal position would be something like a director of organizational development for a corporation/institution. In other words, organize the company in the best way to keep workflow going and workers happy. This would include things like training, professional development, recognition, team organization-- all kinds of stuff! Human resources can also fall under this umbrella. I'm more interested in actually making conditions better for workers than with things like payroll and other HR stuff but sometimes they get rolled in. It depends on the situation. I really just want to keep the job I have now and make everyone call me "doctor." |

Almost all our other freeways are 70 mph so 15 over really isn't as big of a deal, which is what I thought I was safely doing! Stupid detour. |
WOW Jill...that sounds really interesting...Can't wait to meet you at Sheepiepalooza (you ARE coming...right)...I would love to hear more about it..IF we can find time to talk at all..... It's going to be a couple of crazy fun filled days!!!!! |
Jill congrats!
But in the real world we call your possible corporate function "a raise". |

HEY LEADFOOT, huge congratulations on the doctoral program
Doctor Jill, did you flutter those eyes at the officer At least it was no points and only the fine, so I call that news good too. Well done, to get off that one, charm and being female works wonders. |
Congratulations on your acceptance! |

I know you must be really really excited... CONGRATULATIONS. |

How about bringing your dog to work?! |
Wow, Jill, I'm so impressed! Congratulations on your acceptance into the program!
Maybe you can base your dissertation on the manner in which you got out of your speeding ticket! Hey, you DID change the cop's behavior, right?? |
Just for fun, I thought I'd share. I just found out the ticket was $140. However, the part that I'm most bothered by is how they offer an online payment option. Cool, right? Wrong. It is an $18 service fee to pay online. For that price, I could physically drive to the court 3 times! I'll just go grab a stamp and they can wait for ol' snail mail now! |
Oooh, congrats on the acceptance to the program! That's awesome.
Sorry about the ticket |
Congratulations |
Congrats on your acceptance to the doctoral program! I like the sounds of Dr. Jill. Kind of has a ring to it, doesn't it??
Now....about that ticket....really BITES, doesn't it?? |
I refuse to call you Doctor! |
Dr. Strangelove, meet Dr. Breaknose. |
Congrats!! |
Congrats Jill!!!
I know the "Lead foot" syndrome! I was taking a foster to a new home and was caught 86 in a 70! OUCH! I was not allowed to drive for 30 days! I swear I normally don't speed! I was very late! Any hoo I am thrilled about the good news! Way to go Jill! |

Some states actually have hardcore suspension rules and one infraction can get you suspended! |
Wow - so which states am I avoiding? |
Congrats on the good news, that's great!
Not so great on the other... but man oh man do I ever know the feeling |

I know Michigan does it but I can't think of the others off the top of my head at this moment. Every once in a while, the brain locks up! If I run anyone from one of those states today, I'll put it down. Since licenses are completely controlled by state everybody gets to make their own rules. It's like expiration periods. Most states are 4 years but some can be as long as 10. It sucks that most of us have to run to the DMV every 4 years but at least we don't have to live as long with a bad picture! And Jill, slow down!! Those of us who have scraped people off the roadway know that the faster you go, the harder it is to get the stains off the pavement! |
I think we are 8 years or longer now ( I suspect we need an influx of cash at one point). and you can renew by mail if you go to the eye dr for the test so you can use the same picture for however long you want. |

My uncle used to say that and he was right - bu tht ecar got its revenge in the end. he died from a fall. he hit his head on the car bumper and broke his neck. Okay bad kerry. |
Wow Jil! That is fabulous news! That's the field my daughter wants to go into. Now listen: SLOW DOWN! WE NEED YOU HERE. REMEMBER SLOW AND SAFE! And huge congrats! |

Because I would like to laugh but feel like I shouldn't. I'm always safe. I've taken defensive driving classes, been to safety schools where you learn how to react in all kinds of situations and been on a race track numerous times so I know how to properly drive a car in all conditions. I drove for a living for 10 years. I am a driver, through and through. It's never me I worry about. I am confident in my driving/decision making and I don't take chances in safety-- ever. |

Yeah it is true. he would have been one of the first to laugh about it. My aunt offerred my nephew the car (he needed one at the time) he told her he wouldn't feel right driving Christine. so laugh away we are a pretty irreverent family. |
That was my first ticket in over 10 years.
In North Carolina they take your license for 15 miles over the speed limit. It's the law.... The sad part was I went to court, paid my fine and was not aware that DMV would be sending me a letter to turn it over! I got it back five days before the NEOESR picnic two years ago. Has anybody ever tried to drive on the Jersey Turnpike without speeding |
Congrats on your news ! sorry about the ticket....
My employees have a great work incentive.... work or get fired! |
Congrats on your acceptance! Sounds fun? (lol..jk)
That sucks about the ticket. This girl I work with said her neighbor just got robbed for the 2nd time in 3 weeks, and the other neighbors saw it happening and called the cops... and it took them over an hour to show up! The robbers were there for 30 minutes and got away with everything. Meanwhile, I pass 3 different cops on my 15 minute drive from my house to the highway, all parked and giving people tickets. Grr! Tickets suck. |
Hey Doc, I've been in a car with you....were you really only going 85 |
