Like the time Panda found a bright orange Gatorade cap my son left on the coffee table. My utter dismay that out of the dogs it had to be HIM. Urg the rescue --no way could I stick my hands in his mouth and pull off the now bright orange capped back tooth. Oh woe was me! His chart which stated in bold letters that he needed sedation for even minor things and my astonishment that the vet managed to get it off before sedation and said , you could tell this dog was scared but not aggressive. I also read about how well Panda did at the optomologist sitting at my side while prodded in the eye and how proud I was that day of him. Although muzzled he was a good boy. The optomologist also commented that despite his past you could tell he was a gentle dog. He was so afraid but eager to please. Another time myself, the vet and vet tech all failed to restrain a bucking Panda to have his ears checked. The three of us could not hold him down and we returned in 2 hours for sedation and an ear flush. I always got "the works" done at the same time while he was fully under..hips checked, teeth cleaned, nails clipped and shaved down. Never a choice as to a good groom job. Another incident involved when I was working outdoors and Panda came too close to where I just clipped some wire fencing and it stuck in his fur. Again my dismay --WHY HIM? Not Panda! With lots of cookies and very slow ...very slow movements I managed to clip the wire that had wound around his back end. Again, it was Panda out of the three that raced through the bushes at my sisters place and was stuck with burrs and seed heads. That meant another sedation at the vets and a shave. It was a milestone however, as he allowed me to pull many out before I had to give up and realize it couldn't be done without a complete shave. Each incident while expensive and stressful for him due to his background brought us closer to our ultimate goal. How far we've come in four years! The boy who cowered and bucked if someone tried to restrain him, yet was completely loving with people and small creatures otherwise - that's in the past. Many incidents I've forgotten about or my memory wasn't clear. Rereading old post tonight reminded me that each day, week, year brought milestones. The day Panda beat out 175 other assorted creatures and placed 4th in Canadian Pet Idol. They chose him as they had observed his gentle nature towards and how he wasn't fazed by the crowds of people and gazillion other pets around him. Yeah!!! I can touch his body, clip nails, clean his eyes, groom !!!!!! He's come a long way in four years! I even stuck my fingers in his mouth the other day to check his teeth - unheard of several years ago! Some day I may even be able to shave him down without the vet's assistance!! That's the very last thing on the list. I remember writing that down the first year he arrived at my home..I have the patience ..he's worth it. There are some that bring tears to my eyes even now if I come across a post when Shaggy was still alive, or my excitment when Merlin was a puppy, when I referred to Blue as just Blue at age 16 and how I changed that to Ole Blue when he turned 17. Anyhow the trip down memory lane made me smile and wipe tears at the same time. Do you guys ever check your old post? I'm betting you'll end up feeling the same way..so many memories, milestones and funny things about our furkids. Marianne |

I know what you mean. I am on a open university forum and my box was full so I couldnt post any more until I deleted some old posts. So I went right back to the start and deleted some, then I started reading some before I deleted and there were lots about Katy, our last oes, and then when she was ill and died. I was in floods when I finished. But, some posts had happy memories...xxx |
Panda Panda Panda, you've come a LONG WAY buddy! |
Atta boy, Robin er Panda, the boy wonder!
Thanks Roy and Elby! Oh and Marianne, I suppose you deserve a mention. After all, you're a saint. |
Nahhhh not a saint cause I don't think they say the occasional cuss word.
Thanks for that anyhow Ron! Appreciated your comments too Ginny. KTB- I understand what you mean regarding reading things about Katy and her eventual passing. It does get better with time and we find ourselves smiling at their memory. This forum is so wonderful! It seems like just yesterday Ms J was engaged, then posted her wedding photos, then eventually the arrival of Big J formally known as Lil J, and now Joshee! Others like Elissa whose kids have grown before our eyes, Jills wedding, new homes, new furkids, and many many other important events in the lives of members. Who could forget Ron's tick photo! Why Ginny, I even remember a time you wore a fancy dress and had your hair done in that fantastic do at your child's wedding! (Trying to get image from Master dog walker outfit in my mind) Marianne |
Marianne,
Yes, lots of memories, good and bad . I was 7 months pregnant with Hayley when I joined the forum and had just rescued Pepsi. Panda has really come a long way, it should make you so proud of how far he has come. It is all due to your love and perseverance. I was amazed with the challenges you faced with him, but it never seemed to get you down. You were always so positive that things would improve. I have also enjoyed all of your stories over the years of Blue, Merlin, Panda and the rest of the fur family. |
Group Hug!
