Looking to adopt an OES in Atlanta area...

Hi all,

I am looking to adopt an OES in the Atlanta area. I have grown up around them all my life, as they were my mom's favorite dog. Of course, they are now my favorite too! How could they not be?!?!

My parents currently have two females, Molly and Murphy, littermates who are 2 years old. Unfortunately, my parents now live in Florida so I barely get to see the dogs (and I guess my parents too)!

Anyways, I recently ran into a very nice lady at the Dog Park at Piedmont Park. I'm sorry I don't remember her name, but in typical fashion remember the pups' names. She had just adopted a dog named Abby and had another female named Lexie. They were both so sweet! My sister was convinced I was going to leave the park with one! She had mentioned she rescued Abby, and I would be very interested in doing the same thing.

I know it's a good thing I don't currently see any OES up for adoption in the Atlanta area - that means they all have good homes! However, if anyone hears of any dogs in need, I would be very interested and hope you'll keep me in mind. I walk to the park daily, and I would love to have an OES there to keep me company.

Here is a picture of Molly and me:

Welcome!
Keep on eye on http://www.petfinder.com
It doesn't seem that there are any available at this time in GA. But there are a bunch in Florida and surrounding state.
Good luck with your search!! :D

Welcome to the forum!

We frequently see dogs in your area, so be sure to stop by here often!

Good luck! The waiting is the hardest part... sometimes.
Welcome to the forum! I am picking up a guy next weekend to foster, and I am right out of Birmingham. Check our rescue website too. We often have fosters in Atlanta.

Thank you for considering a rescue :!:
HI!!! I'm in Atlanta as well. Just last year there was a GREAT foster available just outside of town, by the Perimeter, so it DOES happen.

Why don't you consider getting one of the Sheepies from the Tarheels OES Rescue (http://www.tarheeloesrescue.org/); They are out of St Louis; you could come up to Sheepie Palooza and come back with your own Sheepdog!!!

Also; there is a "Sheepie Day in the Park" scheduled for here in Atlanta at the end of April. The woman who is organizing it is our local rescue person. Perhaps you could join us for that afternoon!
Thanks everyone for the welcome!

I don't want to jinx myself, but...

I might just be the luckiest girl around. Keep your fingers crossed for me - if everything goes well I'll have a 9 month old sheepdog on Friday! :D

Her owner is somewhat older (late 60s) and is also caring for her very sick mother who is in and out of the hospital. She doesn't feel she can give her the attention she deserves. Although, I know it will be hard for them both at first I am glad she isn't coming from a horrible situation. I hate to think of what some rescued sheepies have come from...
Good luck to you on Friday :D
I hope everything works out.

Tarheel OES Rescue is in North Carolina, but don't let that stop you from coming to Sheepiepalooza in St. Louis!

Just wondering how the meeting went today.
Did you get your 9 month old, spayed sheepie-girl?

Yay Fiona! I'm glad you are here! It was great meeting you and talking with you at the Park last Sunday!
Welcome to the community, Fiona!!!

Nice to have you aboard. I hope that you'll find this place to be a tremendous asset in your rescue work.
Yes, welcome Fiona! But me thinks she has been a "lurker" for a while! 8O Fiona is a great help to Rescue. She pulled my last foster and gave her a shave and a bath before she brought her to me for foster.
Hey Fiona,

Welcome. Glad to see ya here and thx for all that you do!

Zach

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes it better not rain for our Sunday gathering, everyone is on pins and needles wanting to get out there and meet everyone and our furry friends.

I'm glad you like my girls name. It was kind of stupid, but it just fits her personality. She has a sunny disposition. Welcomes all dogs.

I just picked up an owner turn in, Winston, and dropped him off at a foster home, only to find out I've got two more boys coming my way. I do want to keep them together, but its always so hard to keep them together, we rarely get someone who wants two at a time.

It's raining dogs in the southeast.

Anyone want to help with home checks

I can't imagine why...?
Allison (proud "mom" to a pair of litter mates)
Hi Fiona,
I feel like I know you already

I adopted a duo from Ingrid approx 5 years ago,

I HIGHLY recommend adopting 2 together.
This way you don't have to worry if they get along....They already Do.

Corky & shelby are now 9 & 10.
Best dogs I EVER had (I have had quite a few).

Their interaction is a show in itself (no tv needed here for entertainment) :D
They look for each other If one is at the vet just out w/ dad.

If anyone has any doubts about adopting a duo, don't, it is WONDERFUL!!!!
Glad to see you here, Fiona :D

I hope you'll find just the right family for the two boys.
It's beautiful and amusing the way two can get along.
Here are my two littermates- ages 4 1/2-

Some dogs just deserve to be kept together.
Hi Fiona!! Nice to see you here!! Welcome and I hope the weather holds for sheepie day in Atlanta this coming weekend.

You're right - it is raining sheepies in the southeast this Spring. We've been hopping busy in the Carolinas, too. :?

Here they are, together as always. :hearts:
I hope I can keep them together. That would be great. I hated seperating my Sunshine from Lily, but everyone wanted Lily and at the time I wasn't looking for a dog. After I hung out with Sunshine for awhile just me and her, she choose me. Mind you the two of them were terrible in the destructo world together. But on they cute side they used to groom each other and play together all the time.

YES, I did get my sheepdog!! I picker her up on Friday morning from her previous owner's house in Arkansas. She was so excited to meet us (my mom went with me since it was a 10 hour drive from Atlanta).

We played with her for a while and she just jumped in my car and was ready to go for a ride! We got home Friday night about 1130 pm and she was still a little unsettled. She finally started to adjust to my apartment by Saturday afternoon.

I've been taking her over to Piedmont park every day since Saturday, and she LOVES the dog park.

One of the biggest adjustments for her is all of the sounds that come with a big city. She doesn't love noisy Marta buses, not that I can blame her, but she is starting to be less afraid of traffic. She HATES my parking garage though, its loud and noisy so I don't know how to get her over that fear.

She is 9.5 months old now, and already 70 pounds. She's a big happy baby. I've named her Bailey, and she's already responding to it!

Thanks to all of you for the well wishes, and I hope to meet you all at the next event.

Jennifer (and Bailey!)
Congrats! :clappurple:
Congrats on your new big puppy! :D :D

We need pictures..... 8)
WOO HOO!!! Congratulations!!

Most likely she will become accustomed to all of the noises and sounds around, including your garage. Just make it a happy time! May I suggest a treat help in front of the nose!

Now that you have her home and safe in your apartment, how did you find her in Arkansas?
I am so happy for you :clappurple:
And also for her previous owner who was hoping to find a good home for her.

Oh yes! Pictures please!!
Ron's right; a treat will help her over the fear. When you see a noisey bus coming, pop a treat in her mouth. That way she is busily and tastily pre-occupied when it actually is upon you. She'll begin to associate the bus with something good, instead of fear.

I did the same training with my girls in regards to thunderstorms. Now whenever we have one, they don't even flinch at the sound of the thunder!

OH! And Congratulations!!!! What time are you usually at Piedmont? Maybe my girls and I can meet you one day!
Congrats Jennifer!! I can't wait to see pics!
