I'm sure there have been males that were bigger but I haven't seen them... How about you? I'm afraid to give options more than 130#.... |

Mopsy must be a popular name; that was our dog when I was growing up! She was a 100 pound female, and I would not have called her "overweight". She was just big. |
We're currently working on making Clyde not be the largest OES I've ever seen.
I joke, but I'd actually be really happy just to get him down about 7 pounds this summer. I know the vet and I would be happier to see him between 90-95, rather than 100-105 he is now. I take about 90% responsibility for his extra pounds. The other 10% is all his fault. |
Tasker is usually close to 100, we ran into a OES breeder at Petsmart who told me he was unusually "big". He's no skinny mini but he is also not what I would call "fat". |
Simm2zoo's Henry is 138 lbs.
So I marked over 120 since I know of him. Here is the link in which she said it: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?p=207334#207334 |
Our first sheepie, Quincy, was hypothyroid and got up to 125# before he started on his meds. After meds, his fightin' weight was 115#. He was a BIIIIIIIIG BOY.
Having said that - 138# Laurie and Oscar, a slim, 100# bundle of sheepie love |

My first rescue was 125lbs when he was at his best! when he got ill he went down to closer to 100lb. I wouldn't think a 100 lbs is unusually big to anyone who knows more than one line of sheepies. I think it was said Wnston was around 125 when he was at Westminster in January. I find it funny that my "little" Marley at 67 lbs has a brother that big. Smokin must be even bgger than that as Winston was only a little over two. |

I think a lot of people not familiar with the breed also see in books estimations like "between 60-75" pounds. I've seen a lot of dog books call out numbers on the smaller side like that but I know a heck of a lot more dogs that are a lot bigger, too. There really is a huge amount of variation in size with OES depending on the line. |

There really is a huge amount of variation in size with OES depending on the line. Yeah, I've noticed that in books too. Saying that sheepies are that small, but I've really ever known bigger ones. Not monstrous, but bigger. Like Barney doesn't seem all that big to me, but he's over 90 pounds. |
Tonks and Luna come from what I would consider a "diminuative line"; thier dams were each around 65 pounds, and the sire was only 85. So I was thinking I'd probably get small dogs, even though I want larger ones. But at 6 months, both my girls weigh in at 50 pounds; I can't see them adding another 15 and just stopping growing. |
^^^
They may by six months they are pretty well mostly grown. |

barney1 wrote: kerry wrote: ^^^ They may by six months they are pretty well mostly grown. Barney was only halfway there by 6 months. He weighed around 50 pounds at that point... See; that's what I'm hoping for. To be honest, I find it hard to believe all those 100 pound and 125 pounds weighed that much at 6 months. Every one talks about the benefits of even, slow growth... Tonks and Luna got this size by putting on about 5 pounds week from week 12 on. I can't imagine how much a 100 pound dog would have to grow to be fullsized at 6 months old. |
well I did say pretty much grown. organ was about 70 + pounds at 6 months I think Marley was at least 50.
Now the newfie pup may be close to 50 at 13 weeks LOL we went to pick him up yesterday and it seemed like he had doubled in size in a week!! |

Beaureguard's Mom, I LOVE your photo~!!!!!! |
Somewhere somebody asked when Murphy tall boy was neutered...
It is not coming up in this thread any more...I am confused! Probably my computer!!!! Anyway....I went through Murphs history and the best we can guess he was around 9-12 mos when neutered. We adopted Murphy when he was 2ish! I am worried about his long legs ---hope they are not a huge fault in his health! |

Thanks I hope he doesn't have any issues with those long legs either! |

What's the hold up???:excited: Let's see we picked him up late Sunday - had to introduce him to the rest of the pack (took some time with the female ), last night we had puppy class (an hour away of course) and pretty much the rest of the time we are walking, or feeding or referreeing dogs and puppies. I did get a few pictures but no time to post yet. My class is cancelled for tonight and I am leaving work early to take Marley to the vet so I may get a chance later today. |
Bailey is 105 pounds and has legs that go for miles. He's a bit overweight - like Clyde, he should be in the mid 90s. And his long legs have not posed any health problems. Both parents had the same trait and were certified for hips.
Bailey wasn't anywhere close to full grown at 6 months. He probably attained his full height somewhere between 18 months and 2 years. Thank goodness he's done now! |
Thanks Kerry---that was really confusing me!!! |

Awww...mama's protective of her chubby little bubby. |
NEWFIE?? ooooooooooohhhhh, my heart be still. |
I am anxious to see how big my pup "Sawyer" will be. At 14 weeks he is 40.6 lbs...and not an ounce of fat on him! |
Blueshire wrote: I am anxious to see how big my pup "Sawyer" will be. At 14 weeks he is 40.6 lbs...and not an ounce of fat on him!
He is almost as big as Mr. Newfie - it will be interesting to see how the growth patterns go as they are about the same age. |
My first sheepdog (a Fezziwig boy) was over 120lbs. He could have stood to lose a few pounds but he was fairly tall and big boned. |
Taggart, who we adopted in May of 2006 came to us at 116 pounds and is on the slender side of the scale. He lost a few pounds after joining the family and settled at about 110. I asked my vet if I should try to get him back to the 116 level. He was adamant that I should NOT! In fact he would rather a dog of his size, which is considerable be lighter than heavy. Tyler was like 65 pounds when we adopted him and we got him back up to 78 and for a few years he maintained that weight. But he ended up in the low 70's for the remainder of his life. His knees really are what ended up giving him some trouble. His hips and back were fine. I think the lighter weight was a god send for him.
Kiera who is Hypothyroid got so fat that getting up was a real chore. Since she has been on meds is doing much better, infact like a new dog. She is brighter, more active, more playful, more interested, but still a B***H with the other dogs... that has not changed. Her weight is what has caused a lot of joint problems for her along with the low thyroid levels. |
Sam was at 110 but has lost weight (thank goodness) and is now only 90 lbs. Lucky is 109 lbs. London is only 61 lbs and Rodney is at 75 lbs.
Winston was over 100 lbs as well. But then the smallest we have had is Josie (a foster) who only weighed I believe it was 32 or 38 lbs. She was such a petite sheepie. |
Merlin's best weight was about 100 lbs. He picked up 20 when my oldest son went off to college because no one else played soccer with him (as much) and we hadn't adjusted his food intake to compensate. We got him back down to 110 easy, but it was a struggle to go lower. He loved food. A lot. He was built closest to standard of any of mine, at least when I read the breed standard and compared it with his looks and measurements.
Archie is just skinny: he is not food driven at all and is rather leggy and very, very lean. It is not uncommon for him to simply skip meals now and then--no reason that I can see: no upset tummy that is apparent and same energy leve. He's never been above 90; Sherman is even taller and makes Archie look like a box but isn't as skinny under his fur. He is tied with Archie, weight wise, and in fact, when I take them in, will likely surpass Archie. Sophie is very petite and fine boned but also chubby. She gets about 25% less food than the guys and yet you can feel extra on her ribs. Thyroid was good, though. |

sucks to be a girl |

I think I found the largest OES! He's at the Colorado OES rescue. Buckley @ 135 lbs.
He's a beautiful boy! |

I mean the size of his head alone is huge! I'm so jealous; I love a giant dog!!!! Okay; I just went to the Colorado OES rescue site, where they have photos of Buckley. ALSO gigantic! |

I was on a groomers forum awhile back and one groomer posted she did an OES that was 180lbs . I assuming a typo |
There is an OES at the rescue in Colorado Springs that is 135lbs and is not overweight at all just a big dog. |
Patch is 100 pounds, she is big for a girl, but runs like the wind, is very active, and in great shape. She was way underweight at 65 pounds when I picked her up exactly 6 years ago today. She could probably lose 10 pounds, but the vet gave her a good report at her physical a few weeks ago. the largest sheep i've ever seen was Oscar at Jim's picnic a few years ago - that dog was gigantic!! |
I'm really posting late on this one, but my husband had a male OES as a boy and teenager and "Jeeves" weighed in at a whopping 150 pounds! I met him when I was 17 and I only weighed about 105 myself at the time. Jeeves was bigger than me when he stood on his hind legs too (I'm 5'2"). As you can imagine, he had hip problems in later years and he also had Lupus. |
150 pound sheepie!?!!!
Wow! |
Yes, 150 lbs! My father-in-law used to feed him hamburgers from Steak-n-Shake! |
Hi! I think my Crossy is the biggest one I have ever seen.He is definitly not fat says the Vet,but really big.About 60kg and shoulder72 cm Susanne Wow,that means he is 132,2 pounds |
