Or how big is the biggest one you ever saw/had? I remember Mopsy and Prissy were each about 120#.... I suppose this would need to be two polls as you can only hit one button... |
|
Mony is 74 lbs while her little sister (six months apart) is only 69. I consider Laci small. |
Dixie has MO beat........MO's fightin' weight is 60.
We are not quite the alpha and omega here............MO at 60 (65 after winter's rest) and Jack has been 115, but down to 10-something. I suspect he should drop to below 100 especially as he ages. |
My tiny Dancer is just over 50 lbs, at a perfect weight for her. Anything over 55 and she looks chunky. |
"Tiny Dancer"
LOL |
Phoebe was 47 lbs when we got her at age 4 1/2. But she was under weight. Now she is about 56 lbs and the vet says that she is fine. |
At the time we adopted Violet we also adopted a nine year old sheepdog named Soos. We only had her about a week because she bit both my husband and myself unprovoked and I didn't want to be afraid of my dog....so we gave her back to the rescue. She was only about 50lbs and had the prettiest blue eyes. She was the smallest sheepie I had ever seen. Also at the rescue was the biggest sheepie I had ever seen and his name was Toby...he was pushing 100lbs and was still only about 15mts old. That was five years ago....almost 6. |
Josie, a foster, was only 38 lbs - she was so tiny. Her original owner said she was the runt of the litter. She definitely was the smallest full grown sheepie I have ever seen. |
Rags was @ 49 lbs when I rescued her at 2 years old.
She was WAY underweight. She is now a very healthy 75 lbs, (26 1/2 inches tall). The Vet said she is at her perfect weight now. |
Miss Ellie maintains a perfect 49lbs. |
Do these small light dogs meet the standard (21" and up for bitches and 22" and up for dogs?)
Miss Marley is the smallest OES I have had (67 lbs) and my former Max at 125lbs was my largest. saw a dog at the VA nationals who was thw etallest sheepie I have ever seen - the same size as a wolf hound if I had to guess! |
MO is just under the standard. |
We currently have April, a foster girl, who weighed in at 43 lbs. last week. She's very petite. The vet commented on how nice and lean she is.
We've had a few very emaciated dogs here but April is the smallest healthy OES so far. |
Well our little foster dog Duibhin looks like a full blooded OES puppy but, he is at least 2 y/o. He is only 47 pounds and not too skinny!
He will furever be the baby! |
BTW--- the tallest sheepie at the VA nationals was our boy Murphy!
He is 32 inches at the withers. He is a rescue and very well known for his lovely long legs--- You think you all have a problem with counter surfers! |
That was you guys?!? Well, the world just keeps getting smaller and smaller!
Weight isn't always the best way to gauge size for biggest smallest. Suzi is one of the smallest girls right about 21 1/2" but is a solid 67 pounds. She is all hard muscle! |

He was a beautiful dog - my sister was with me and fell in love with him (she has a King Charles Cavelier!) I always wondered though - do you know when he was neutered? I always think of him when I read about delaying neutering because of excessive leg bone growth |

Yup - I was wondering when someone was going to make that connection. You need the correlation to get a better picture. Local rescue dog is just a bit taller than all of mine, but weighs about 15-20 lbs less. No bone in her case. And, psht! Suzi isn't small. All of my girls are 21.5-22 inches tall (or better be, Macy!) Belle's daughter Liz is oversized at 22.75 But Sybil was formally measured at 21.5" last week And they're all about that weight unless kept agility lean. Most of the bitches around here sans one from a wide variety of show breeders are about that size and up to maybe 23" Anything over that in bitches looks humongous to me. You just think she's small because you're competing with the "big" boys. Though none of male specials I can think of are all that tall either. Translation: she's not small. She's normal. Well, at least in terms of size. Can't speak to the rest Kristine |
I really think that they grow bigger girls on the East Coast. It always seems like Suzi is the smallest thing anywhere. (She fits sideways on the grooming table!)
Even your girl that was at Pittsburgh did seem as small as Suzi but she was definitely smaller than the East Coasters. (She looked really good too!) |

Even your girl that was at Pittsburgh did seem as small as Suzi but she was definitely smaller than the East Coasters. (She looked really good too!) Thanks! Marta is a little cutie. But she is teeny. I'm hoping LeAnne or Breanna decide to do agility with her so we get an official measurement. I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't much over 21". Her brother Will who finished last year is in my estimation tiny for a male. I saw him this past weekend, he's shaved down now, so his diminutive height is really obvious. He's a little doll, but in all honesty I do want more size in a male - not huge, but more of a size difference from the girls. It's kind of funny. I was so afraid I'd end up with small horses with this breeding, but nope. If Suzi gets tired of being literally, though not figuratively, overshadowed by her east coast sisters-in-hair, you can always come on out to the midwest. Of course, the only OES bitch special I can think of out here *is* the size of a small horse (a nicely proportioned horse, mind you - lovely, just too big for me) and her breeder apparently spends a lot of time telling the judges that the rest of us all have it all wrong. We all look at each other and say, OK, this fad too shall pass. I think you'll always see some drift in one direction or another and you just have to stay true to your own vision as long as it is within the standard. Failing that, I bet she'd look great in stilettos! Kristine |
Our Abby girl is 48lbs and like the energizer bunny, our rescue Otis is a whopping 113lbs and a supervisor, likes to WATCH the other fur kids ex-cert energy. |
