I have posted questions before about Sid's upcoming litter, and you were all very helpful. (Yes, tests have been run on her, no, she doesn't have a conformation championship as she has a broken canine[had it when I got her]). So she came into heat a few months earlier than I expected - she was pulled into heat by my co-owner's other females. We had a lovely pairing lined up so we went ahead and tracked her heat - did slides twice and a progesterone test as well. The progesterone test indicated that she was at her prime stage for fertilization of the eggs. We also did a sperm count and motility test and both were good. She was transcervically A.I.'ed that day (fresh)- only did it once as it was several hundred to get to this point and they said there was an 88% chance of success. Her heat seemed completely normal other than timing, lots of bleeding, increased 'cattiness' towards other females, etc. She wouldn't let George mount her but I assumed that was because we got them together about five days before her prime. We x-rayed her two weeks ago (she was due yesterday) - no pups. Could this be because her heat was knocked off course? Could that have been a false heat? She is getting very lovey with my neutered GSD - even to the point of standing to be mounted. My husband's little love (he does the pug thing) just went into heat and this is when Sid's heat was supposed to occur. My regular vet has no clue and I haven't heard back from the fertility specialist that we took Sid to for the breeding. If anyone has any experience with this sort of thing, please let me know. Thanks! |

Have many progestorone tests did you have before she was AI'd with the fresh semen?
Example with my girl, Started progestorone testing on day 7 after starting her heat.
Then day 9, 12, 14, 15 she started to peak in the 20's on day 15 so she was mated on day 16 24hours later which would make her progestorone levels in the high 20's to low 30's ovulation time.
When using a vet that does the progestorone testing to get them at the right time especially with an AI then it is going daily as the levels start to rise for the test and a fast turnaround of that day for the results only a small window of opportunity otherwise you miss and you are not at the right time.
My girl only had that one mating on day 16 and 8 pups born. She was out on day 17 when we tried for a 2nd mating.
No I don't think her heat cycle caused a problem with her not conceiving just think you might of been too early or too late in her cycle when you had her AI'd.
By her body language of not letting the dog mount her then she definately was not at that crucial time in her cycle.
What was her progestorone level when you had the test done? |
