Hi Kristen!
What did you have in mind, a picture for the cards? |
I was hoping to incorporate my neices (1 upright, 1 fourlegged), and nephews (1 upright, 1 fourlegged) pictures into a Christmas / Holiday type scene. For example - last year I had a card that was 3 Wise Men (drawings - cartoon like) and I cut out Brittney, Presley and Sydney's heads and placed them over the wise-men heads (I know - sacreligous I'm sure! ) I was thinking something like that. I was also thinking about taking their pictures and doing an effect to them (cartoon like or something) - what program do you think is best?
I loved the PEACE card on Verveups' Website - but then I read that she's a Graphic Artist! That explains alot! Let me know what ya' think! Keep in mind - I'm not artisticly inclined! Thanks Kristen |
For cutting up photos and placing them into another, the best program to use is photoshop. Sometimes, the best way to go is low tech... A pair of scissors, some tape and the right amount of imagination can go a long way! Once you have what you want, you can take it to Kinko's to scan it and then it can be used for photo greeting cards.
If you are interested in somethimg more cartoon like, you could consider getting a cartoon comission from my wife, we could even create the cards from you! |
Thanks! After seeing "Dudley's ornament" I was considering doing something from your wife with my own dogs - she does a great job!
I have to look at the website more and see everything. |
Sorry Kristen that I didn't respond to your post sooner. I usually get pumeled with work this time of year. Thanks for the compliment on the card. People really liked that one last year, I guess especially since its message was so timely.
When people asked me how I did it, I used to tell them how much difficulty it was to get the animals to walk in the direction to spell the letters and they actually believed it. Here's how I did it: Took overhead digital photos of each of us outside separately. Cut the photos out of their background so that was one layer. Added some shadow underneath each of us. Another layer made plain light grey background added some shading and noice to give it a snow texture. Another layer I made fake footprints that were all black, blurred the edges a little, added highlight and shadow so to make them looked like they were pressed into the snow. I created the whole thing in Adobe Photoshop. I know I am making it sound easier than it was. Whole thing took about 6 hours to get perfect enough to look pretty realistic. Trick for making for making photo marrying realistic is a) Try to photograph people/objects in the same light b) Do a good job cutting them out of the backgrounds c) Look how your shadows are falling and try to simulate them. The extra shadowing really adds a lot of realism. I'm trying to figure out what to do for this year's card which I am always stressing about every year about this time. Kristen, no matter how you do your card, people will appreciate the fact that it's hand made and they always love receiving something a personal, whether it's just a photo of your family or even a kid drawing that a child draws. |
a photoshopped walters head onto a santa clause surrounded by animals for my christmas cards last year.... haha id tell you how i did it but i think it took me something like 8 hours and a lot of frustration! good luck! |
Here's the card I did 2 years ago...
and my sister's - which it doesn't matter when it was taken it's been the same for 10 years! Thanks for your tips everyone - I'll see what I can do and will show you when I'm done. Kristen |
