As some of you already know - I adopted Tony from Kaye last year. Tony was one of the first batch of miracle babies - the one who had parvo. He's such a loveable, affectionate and clingy goofball unlike our rambunctious london. Anyway, we took him to the vet this morning because he's been having explosive diarrhea for some days. The vet tested Tony's stools and thinks he's ok, just some kind of reaction to his food but we will keep an eye on him for a few days. Well, while there - the vet is suspicious that Tony has hip dyplasia ( i know i spelled this wrong) - which is something we've dreaded for a long long time.. Tony isnt in pain or does any of the obvious traits such as scooping, bunny hop run or dragging his legs. He DOES sit weirdly -- he sits on his butt with his legs kinda tucked in... people think it's cute but it bothers me. I'm hoping he just has weak muscles from being a sick puppy or ihas mild HD -he will have an exam next week to see if he really has it... My question is .. does anyone know if any of the miracle babies has it ( i know I spoke with one but he passed away last summer).. Just curious and just want to share notes. |

Oh poor Tony! If he does have HD, water exercises helps a lot by taking the pressure off the joint..........remember Chummie the water baby. I also know dogs who received the dreaded diagnosis and their owners went out of their way to gradually build up those back muscles to help stabilize the misaligned joint. So could be Tony gets extra attention! He'll like that.
Will be interesting to hear how the other babies faired........ s. |

s. I would love an update on all of them. I didn't realize that Tony was one of the miracle babies. I also didn't know that one of them passed away. How sad! I also didn't know that they had parvo. They should be 2 yrs old now. Where are all those Miracle Baby parent??? I know quite a few joined the forum. I hope everything is okay with Tony!! |

Hi,
I hadn't realized that little Emily died but have no doubt that Kaye's place was filled with lots of love for that little one. I remember one of Kaye's postings in which she was getting worn by rescue work and was passing the reins to someone else. (Rescue is so difficult and I was amazed at her stamina - taking on so many elderly and special needs.) That woman was a saint and I miss her post on this forum. If any of you run into Kaye - please say hi to her from me. I also remember that an unscrupulous breeder changed her ways and turned over her dog to Kaye through reading this forum. That was the pups mom. This forum does make a difference! London, I hope Tony doesn't have HD and I'll keep him in my thoughts. I was in love with him as a pup too! Marianne |

To see Panda sit sometimes you'd swear her hips were perfect. http://oesusa.com/PandaScarf12108.jpg In reality, they're rather bad. I have another that sits crazy and splays all over the place and she's a kind of bow-legged. We had her hips x-rayed this week to see if there was a problem. http://oesusa.com/12507Yes.jpg http://oesusa.com/TinyPillow.jpg Just some slight arthritis... no hip dysplasia. X-rays will help to tell his story. And if he has hip dysplasia, many dogs do pretty well with supplements. Best wishes to Tony! |
Hi Everyone!!
Thank you for all of your kind words and good wishes!!!! I remember the time Kaye had posted about the miracle babies - I never thought i'd adopt one until much later. I adopted Tony when he was 8 months old- long after the miracle babies phase. it was love at first site. He has those big brown eyes and I just had to have him. http://youtube.com/watch?v=_o8cTumm63o (just a little recent clip of Tony.. he's the one facing the camera while london and Dublin play in the background) Ive emailed kaye last year to see how she was doing but havent heard from her a while. Is anyone in touch with her? Will definitely update everyone w/ tony's hip results. keep your fingers crossed for good news! laural a little funny bonus of london being hypnotized by the DVD logo on the TV. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1wXL__qIfY&NR=1 |
