I am thinking - What the heck ? - we just finished the eye dropps about a month ago. I will be going back for more tomorrow. Is there something I am missing in my grooming routine that would help keep the eye infections at bay. I keep wondering if I am missing something. I have not had her CERF yet - there is a very reasonable CERF at a May will that help me? Thanks again - |

what are you doing to her eyes when you groom? there really isn't anything I can think of that needs to be done. |
I'm assuming he doesn't have the inverted eye lids where the lashes brush against the eye instead of guard the eye. I'm sure that's the first thing the vet looked for.
I'm also assuming he doesn't have a vision problem where he's walking into penetrating objects or scratching his eyes. So I'm wondering about food or environmental allergies or the poor guys eye washing system, the tear ducts, aren't working properly. Did the vet give you eye drops to apply daily? I've never had to worry about doggies' eyes, except Basil who got a cataract which reduced his sight enough that he walked into something at a kennel and injured and infected the eye. |
Hi,
I'm just wondering if perhaps you could look into things that could boost the immune system to fight off infection perhaps? Antibiotics not only kill the bad bacteria but the good as well, and many have claimed that giving yogurt helps while an animal is on antibiotics. It also could be allergy related. I wish you luck with finding a solution. Marianne |
It really depends on what type of infections she is getting and if they truely are infections. I would say just make sure to really keep the area clean and keep the hair away from the eyes so that it doesnt rub or get stuck on the eyes. |

CERF is an eye screening test. Certainly they can tell you if there is a deformity with her eyes, but I doubt they would be able to help you determine why she has recurring eye infections. I agree with everyone that maybe it's a reinfection and your vet will have to help you determine how to prevent them from occurring again. |
Thanks again for the advise. I think I found the source of part of my problem - two scabs right under her eye. I think she was pawing at her topnot and I suspect scratching her eye. I had the groomer grind her nails to get them shorter than I get them. I also am trying to topnot without pulling her hair too tight.
I suspect there is more going on as she is having more eye goup than usual so I am cleaning with warm water. |
