Has anyone had this problem before? I've tried saying No, blocking her with my body and I was thinking about the squirt bottle. Any suggestions? |

Brittney was a toy hoarder too! She would take a ball / rope and tuck it under her front paws - stashing it so Presley couldn't get it. I didn't do much about it because it didn't bother Presley and no arguments ensued - so I just let them be. |
Sky does this as well... and she prefers toys she has stolen from Dancer so much more! LOL |
Hi,
The reason Sofa does this is that she has emerged as the Alpha dog. It's hard to watch and being human we want to be fair but it's perfectly normal in doggie life. The Alpha always gets the food, toys and the choice spots and the less dominant one will immediately relenquish them if challenged by the Alpha. Although Lennon was at your home first, Sofa is now comfortable and has established her dominance over him. This is also happening in my household with Merlin, Panda and Blue. It's difficult to watch as poor Blue rarely gets to play with his toys which he loves, as Merlin will come racing over..especially the squeeky ones. What's even more difficult is Merlin has no interest in balls or toys...only when he brother has them will he seem interested in them. With Panda whom also loves toys, Merlin is a bit harder on him he races over more quickly and Panda immediately drops any item he's holding and walks away. The only positive thing is: Panda whom never had been used to living in a house will still grab anything like towels,CD's, shoes..anything left out in the open. Now that Merlin has established dominance over him ..I no longer have to worry about leaving Panda free in the house and Merlin just ignores the object that Panda has dropped. The downer is I feel bad for Panda when the object is an acceptable one such as a toy. Here's a suggestion as to what you may do as I have also done in my household so that each dog gets a chance to play with their toys. I use my computer room and occasionally bring one dog in the room with me and close the door. This allows the dog free time to play happily without being bothered by the other dogs. Not sure if you have the space available or how Lennon or Sofa would react but worth a try. Good Luck! Marianne |
How funny..LOL, Annabelle does it to Jack as well. We don't interfere, it seems she does it to play, and after she does it a couple of times, she knows it will get him to play keep away, and it seems then, that they take turns at the take away, but Annabelle is always the instigator. She always lets him fetch the ball too, and then she attatches herself to an ear of a tuft of hair and pretends to fetch the ball and Jack at the same time. LOL Gotta love those sheepies..

Thanks Marianne,
That's what I was afraid of. Sofa has a very dominant and stubborn attitude and she will only stop when she has got what she wanted, Lennon is more obedient than her and it's easier to teach him things. At least we know what's going on (sigh) Usually she takes away toys from him, but then they play a lot of tug-o-war with their towels or their plush toys and there is never a clear winner. We let them play until the growling gets too loud, then they drop the toy and go their way to look for mischef to do. Sometimes Lennon goes looking for a toy and then goes to Sofa to offer it, then they start tugging it. Is that their way of saying "I'm bored, play with me!"? We already give Lennon some time alone to play with his toys, and after a few minutes, they are whining because they want to be together... Who understand those dogs?!? |
