A story for people who don't think that Alaskans care about sled dogs. This was the led story on the tv and paper for the last few days. Zorro a champion sled dog was hit by a snow machine while riding in the sled racing toward the end of a race. The guy ran over the team injuring Zorro and three other dog, then drove off. He has since contacted Lance Mackey the musher who was beside himself. Poor Zorro was rushed to Anchorage and is now in Seattle. He had four broken ribs and some paralises in the back area. They said that he will be ok, but he will not be able to race. He will have to make his living as a kennel stud. He was scheduled for retirement after this season. But it was planned that he would trot off toward the ladies. I am so happy for him and Mackey. |

That is too bad - I bet the guy who hit them was beside himself as well. Do you have any links to the papers carrying the stories? |
Glad he is going to be okay. I was almost hit by a snow plow in Vermont when I was a kid. Me and my two friends had to jump a snow bank as the plow did not see us. We ended up in a frozen creek on the other side of the snow bank. I can laugh about it now because it was many years ago. But it was really scary when it happened. |
