where to have dinner in Albuquerque

I don't get to Albuquerque very often. I need a few suggestions for decent places to take a customer to dinner.

first choice is Yannis........it is Mediterranean but also has good steaks, fish.

Scalos......actually near Yannis.........upscale northern Italian

Ranchers Club in the Hilton ....good restaurant, hotel is showing it's age. Beef place.

New Mex food? El Pinto in North Valley, nice setting.

I don't get downtown but Tucanos is a Brazilian grill......for meat eaters, LOL!
I'd recommend El Pinto or Guardunos. They are both "New Mexican" food with a nice atmosphere. If you don't want to try New Mexican food Susan made some good suggestions.
Bien Sur is on top of Sandia Casino and has a great view and good food. A little pricey though.
Drinks/appetizers at High Finance, on the top of Sandia. The tram ride is fun and the view is worth it. (Wave to my old house please, I miss it) Make reservations.

It was an excellent place to eat in the late 80s, but the last couple of times we had dinner there (90s and 2000s), I was disappointed and broke.
LOL! Forgot about High Finance.....not good if people are afraid of heights! Great view but the tram ride up is not for the faint of heart.
You are right, food not the greatest, paying for the view and the fact everything!! has to come up and down the tram.

Heard good things about Bien Sur, but also too much $$ for what you get....what'd they think it was Las Vegas circa 1950??

Also the resort north of Bernalillo, Tamaya Resort, fine dining restaurant is the Corn Maiden. Out of my price range. Duh, the room rate is $400 per nite.

(little story about Tamaya Resort......when it first opened, they had to hire rattlesnake catchers for the parking lot.....the resort is built in a particularly heavy rattlesnake infested area and the snakes resented the intrusion. They'd camp under people's cars. Assume the snakes have found new digs after these years.)

Don't know how much you want to drive, where you are staying, but glad you are coming!!
Thanks everybody, I would be clueless without your recommendations!

Holy Crap! I won't choose Tamaya Resort. 8O "Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes". My husband and I have been looking at different area's for the "last" home. We talked about a desert location, but he would need to invent an invisible fence to keep the snakes out. I can imagine it, sitting on the deck, glass of wine in hand, watching the sun set, and then a zap, buzz, smoke at the edge of the property, our own snake zapper.

I hope that next visit I can plan an extra day and meet some of the NM Sheepies.
We lived south of Albuquerque about 10 years ago. We lived in Alamogordo, New Mexico and it was a wonderful place. I'm a southern girl though so I missed all the green but I really enjoyed our time there - we went to Albuq. several times but not enough to recommend eating out there. Also I thought Santa Fe and Taos were cool!!!! Have Fun!
Just so ya know, I've never run across a snake in my backyard. They are mostly just an issue during nature-like activities, like going on a hike or something. Tumbleweeds, however, are a reality even when driving on the freeway.
I remember tumbleweeds!! :) Thanks for the memory, I had forgotten about that!!
Thanks for the advice everyone. As it turned out, our meeting turned into a marathon and we ended up eating at McGrath's in the Hyatt. Food was avarage and the service was terrible.

Last time I was in Albuquerque was 9 years ago. It was business and all I saw was the hotel meeting room.

Growing up in Colorado, we traveled through the Albuquerque area many times. Back then it was just another dusty little desert town with little or no reason to stop and stay.

Today, I was lucky and had several hours to burn before my flight, so I spent some time driving around town. I started in downtown, then out to the older immediate surrounding neighborhoods. I found the city area extremely clean and vital. Most of the downtown buildings are a bit dated, but they are well kept and populated. The neighborhoods were typical blue collar areas with small, older homes, but again very clean and much nicer than many cities I visit.

I jumped on I-25 North toward Santa Fe to look at the newer areas of town. The "burbs" are pretty much the same as anywhere else. Nicely designed median income homes on well tended streets.

The best part of my short exploration was the people. Very friendly and extremely helpful. I really like the spirit of Albuquerque, obviously, it's very old

Best part of the dirve, was the fly over that connects I-25 and I-40. It's painted the typical "adobe" color with a thin turquoise stripe along the top. It was such a visual! It was almost like a beautiful ribbon across the bright blue sky. (the Northrup building just before the fly over is pretty cool too.)

What a great place you folks have in Albuquerque.

PS, Utah grows a bumper crop of really large tumble weeds too.
