Any ideas or suggestions before I call the vet tomorrow? He seems ok other than the nose. He has been on predinsone since his latest hiccup. Thanks! |

I don't thin the runny nose is something to be overly concerned about unless it's constant. Could just be like an allergy response. I would say just keep an eye on him and if he's coughing/gagging or has any type of white/green discharge, that kind of thing. |
It's probably nothing serious, but because prednisone decreases the effectiveness of the immune system, it could be a little virus as well. Oscar is also back on pred for his IBD, so I try to limit his interaction with other animals, just in case. Not always easy to do, with as often as we are at the vets.

one of my dog's nose runs too. He gets it when he is excited or nervous. I doubt that it would be distemper because it is so uncommon these days that even the vets are surprised when they do see a case. We had a possible distemper at my vet clinic but it turned out not to be. It also occurs in young pups who havent had any shots. Is the fluid clear or is it a discharge? it is has a color I would be more worried. At the clinic I work at, the internal medicine specialist sees a lot of pets when nose issues, most are tumors but occur in older dogs usually and it is cancer, we see a few fungal cases or the occasional mass. All of these cases we see dont have a runny nose, the pets usually are more stuffed up and have a hard time breathing through their nose but no running or discharge is see so I doubt that your kid has any of these. It could just be as simple as seasonal allergies and you can try benadryl to start off with. If you are worried I would just set up an appointment with the vet and they can take a look and see whats going on. I dont think it is anything to get too worried about. Keep us posted |
