I have mine!! I filled it out right away, will pop a check in it and off it will go! I entered Simon in the sub-novice agility too. I thought about competing him but he has had only one class course and we will be in it just for fun. He loves it and so do I. Gar of course has no clue so he will be sitting out. I just wish it wasn't so darn long to wait.
Mine came today in the mail~ :D

I can't wait, this will be so fun.

OES only? I'd like to try with Bear, too. He'd be good at rally, I think.

Of course that includes Bear too. I am sure Chewie's sibling, Simon the Basset will be competing in rally.
Of course Bear!!
Simon will be there too, and be doing stuff. Bear looks lots more like a sheepdog than Simon!!
Bear looks like a giant OES with a really bad hair day! Simon is a shaved sheepie......on short legs.......and brown coat..........and really long ears.

LOL - yes, it is quite a stretch to make Simon a sheepdog!
I'm so naive, can someone tell me what's involved in rally?
Guinness has done novice rally, but he has been such an a@# lately I think I would be really embarresed. Now that I have three foster pups I have no time to work with him. Well maybe I should make time....I just can't wait.

Basic obedience skills but you go through stations - like a road rally. Here is a link to the AKC website,

http://www.akc.org/events/rally/getting_started.cfm

Stacy - you really should consider that as well as the Agility(jumpers) for Fozzie. All he needs to know is "over" - you can get him over the jump any way you can without touching him. It is only 4 jumps! See my notes to Cindy below.

Cindy - don't let that be a deterrent. Kristine (Mad Dog) encouraged me to enter Nationals with Harry and overall it was a good experience for us. Plus Sheepiepalooza is the perfect place to try these things - there is really no such level as sub-novice, we created it to give the dogs a chance to try something in a competition like setting that they would not normally get to do. Since we have told you what to expect on the other courses at the sub-novice level - I will ask Dawn to make a selection of the stations we will use and post them here. That way if people want to practice they know what to work on.

Seriously, folks you really can't embarrass yourself - they ARE sheepdogs after all so nobody knows what to expect - just think Harry and the PAUSE TABLE at Nationals. Who knew that the pause table could be entertaining?

More importantly - IT IS FOR A GOOD CAUSE! A portion of the proceeds goes to help OES Rescue so the more people who enter the more money for the sheepies. Let's all have a good time!

This is how adventurous I am feeling. I am thinking of going straight for Novice on Rally - since SUPPOSEDLY my guy has enough off leash training in becoming a Therapy Dog. It will give us something more to work on before Sheepiepalooza. And maybe reinforce those "downs" and "sits" for the Pause Table.

Rally is based on obedience, but with a twist. It is also similar to agility - it has a course set by the judge (so a surprise until you get there), the course has numbered signs that you follow from a start to a the finish line. It is timed, but accuracy is most important. Time is used to break ties.

You start with 100 points, and points are deducted for mistakes. If you have at least 70 points by the end, you get a qualifying score ribbon. When you get 3 legs (3 qualifying scores) you get a title!

Rally was made to be more simple and fun than regualr obedience, so it is very popular with people and dogs. You can talk to your dog, pat your leg, clap your hands. Pretty much the only no no is having a tight leash and touching your dog.

There are 3 levels.
Novice is 1st and all on leash. It has easier signs (stations).
When you get 3 legs, you have the RN title.

Advanced is next, and all off leash. It includes all the Novice stations, plus a few more that are more difficult. The title is RA.

Excellent is the 3rd level, and the most difficult. It is all off lead, and you are not allowed to clap or pat your legs, etc. You still can talk and use simple gestures, however. It includes all the RN and RA stations, plus some more that are more difficult. The title is RE.

It is a challenging sport, but very fun and doable for most people and dogs. At every competition I have been to, the people all are great and cheer for each other. There are dogs of every breed doing it, as well as young dogs and old dogs. :D :D
Thanks guys! Here I was thinking rally was more like a "relay" race with the dogs running off quickly to pick up a ball and bringing it back to another dog and on and on. Like passing a baton in gym class :D

I have a feeling Fozzie will run around hurdles. Unless it's the bottom four of our stairs or over Annie to get onto the couch, I'm not sure if he'll jump

Is there anything for sheepies to run after like there's for Greyhounds (those rabbit things that run around a track)? I think Foz would really enjoy that type of exercise...or just a Greyhound might do. :D

Stacy - that is a sport - it is flyball! I have never tried it, but it looks like fun. Rally is much easier - you are walking with your dog following the directions on the signs. Definitely doable for you and Foz and most any of the dogs who have done any basic obedience.

It does happen - and is still very entertaining. You should try Foz in the sub-novice agility.

Foz will get plenty of that when they all get to run around at the dog park in Soulard. It is reserved just for our group. :D :D
I will enter and Guinness has a certificate for the basic ralley but honestly I don't know if he would do well It may be worth the laugh AND the money goes to a good cause. He did a novice rally at a local event (It was the dog a thon put on by my therapy group) and did well butthat was last year. We will see.
Cindy,

We can be buddies - we can let Harry and Guinness get laughs together. When he gets in an excitement zone their is no making Harry mind. You might as well save your breath.

Maybe there should be an award for the least obedient sheepdog. Of course, Harry is just enough of a pain in the butt to not even get that award.

Anyway - I am glad Guinness will be participating. It will be fun.

Isn't that a general sheepie character trait? :D I know two wigglebums it fits to a tee.

If there is an award for least obedient, the winner will be riding up to St. Louis in my Highlander, I assure you.
This is going to be so much fun to see!!! :D

OMG! How much fun! In a PM, Michelina likened this feeling to a being a kid in a candy store where you can get whatever you want. The Willy Wonkas of sheepies. I just busted out laughing as that's exactly how I feel!
For me, the most enjoyment comes from being around great people, who understand my relationship with Oliver, and understand his behavior. I don't have to explain his sheepie traits, you guys just get it.

That being said, I just want to emphasize that Oliver forgets his manners every once in awhile and will jump up for a kiss (and sometimes he misses, so a head butt is the result)...

Oh yeah!
I am still walking around with a throbbing nose from last night. While in class my exuberant boy bopped me on the side of my glasses, jamming the nose piece into my nose. It is still swollen......
Ahhh....yes....life with a sheepie.... :hearts:
