When should we shave?

We have decided that we are going to shave Tuck this summer. Honestly, even if he doesn't need it according to some people's opinions (and we haven't decided which one makes more sense to us), with being in and out of the water and the beach, his little baby pool, and playing with his doggy friends, we don't want to be de-matting him every day when it's 40C here with the humidity, and I don't think he's going to want us doing that either.
And so, we will shave.
My question is, when is the most common time to do it? Do most of you who shave do it when the snow is melting and it's all muddy? Or wait until it starts getting hot? I know it's just a matter of our preference, but I was just interested in some opinions.

Thanks!

I wouldn't wait til it gets too hot if you're going to shave right down, they can get sunburned too.
Here it is still too cold, but if anyone is getting shaved it would normally be end of March.
If he isn't going to spend a whole lot of time outside then when it's still a little chilly is fine.
We hand clipped MO down last weekend.......terrible job that we'll even up with clippers in another month. Right now she looks like her stuffing is coming out all over her body. The reason we did it is she's into the water already.

Jack we'll do next month...maybe mid month. Actually I've already begun on him, just not in the most noticeable sites: around his collar and behind his ears as well as a belly and inner back leg job. I may do his legs this weekend, but then he'll look like a fluffy white and grey cloud on grey sticks.........

I think we'll do Glacier again this year. Shaved Pyrs are pathetic looking, but she LOVED it last year.....she bounced all over, pretty good for an old lady.
I just clipped Blue last week #4 he is 9 months But we do have mud now.
Oscar gets shaved every six weeks all year round, come rain, shine, sleet, snow, whatever. He is an indoor dog with skin/allergy issues, so it's the best way for me to keep on top of any brewing situations. And he runs hot anyway, so, even shaved, he sleeps on our cold tile floor in winter.

If you do shave him before the weather turns warmer, and he's not used to being nekkid, he might be a bit chilly in the beginning.

Too funny I made Laika's shave down appointment today. We have to wait until June 24th my groomer is one busy gal! But worth it.
Willoughby had his big spring haircut to the basic dog on Friday last before I collected him him from the boarders where there are good groomers. :D This year however, the groomer gave him a sort of Airdale look about his face especially his nose! He was matted because the whole house moving business ate up all my time. He's very happy and has a coat for those days when it rains or as it did yesterday snowed! 8O
