I don't have any ideas about this but did want to say hello - from Texas too! Have you seen our post under play dates? |
Several thoughts: one is a fungus. Exactly what type would have to be cultured by your vet. Then the appropriate med applied, sock on the foot, e-collar around the neck to keep the sock from being eaten.
Boredom, nerves may be causing the dog to chew or lick the paw starting the fungus. Or he may have gotten into something. Fleas or other misc critters between the toes may have caused a reaction that started this. Second thought is allergies. Most often this is either to something outside, like grass, or their food. Certain grain in the food, say corn, might be setting this off. The way to solve this is start with a two ingredient food, say duck and potato and then over the months, add one more item back to their food. |
Aww yukky! Looks fungal to me, but I'm no expert. A trip to the vets is in order, I'm sure it will be simple to sort out |
klindshill wrote: Does anyone know what could be causing this? Poor Max is 3.5 yrs old and has some yellow flaky pads. There is no severe weather going on (we are in TX) and he doesnt appear to be in pain or licking them. Ive never seen this before. Any ideas? http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd14 ... ads014.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd14 ... ads078.jpg My dog has the same exact thing on his pads! The fungal biopsy was negative, but it did come back positive for staph. |
A dalmo? I have one too. They are notorious for skin issues, allergies etc Looks like a staph infection to me but you need to see a vet. It can start out as an allergy then become a fungal or staph infection or both. |
