Check out the house and crate training section. You'll find lots of advice there. |
Simon was 16wks old when he stopped peeing in the house. It was like a light switch went off and one day he stopped and never did it again. |
what is your routine? Maybe we could make some suggestions. |
It does take time.....and routine...and repetition...maybe some treats...and a buzz word...(go potty..go wet..and when they do treat them...).and patience....and MORE patience....and then...some more patience..but one day...it will click!!! And forever they will be trained.... Heart is almost 10 months old and she can hold it for over 8 hours. I take her out and say..."Heart , go wet..." and she'll sniff and go...I must have said "go potty" about a million times since she came to me at 8 weeks........ GOOD LUCK!!! |
both of mine were around 16 weeks old also. Like a switch. |
He pees right after you bring him inside because you taught him that. When you take him out, give him time to potty. When he potties, praise him, play with him a little bit (5-10 minutes) than let him potty again (5 min.) and then take him inside.
They don't empty themselves after just one squatting; they are just like babies, they have to learn to hold longer. Have a potty schedule for him. Write down when he actually pees or/and poops. Follow the "Rule of a thumb" which means they can hold it a number of months they are + 1. So, a 2 months old puppy can hold it for 3 hours, 3 months old puppy can hold it for 4 hours, etc. by 6 months they should be able to hold it up to at least 8-10 hours! It is up to you how you manage the situation, how much time you put into potty training and how consistent you are. Dogs are going to be as consistent as you are! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at kata@cavecanis.com I'm happy to help you more! |
It can seem weird at first but when you are taking her outside to go to the bathroom priase him or her by name (make sure it is vocal enough that they look back at you) everythime and they will figure it out real quick. We have had issues with Kayla but luckily she never had any problem with house training. She is 13 months old and when I take her out quickly when I get home I still give her praise because it has worked so well for us. She is in the house all day so when I get home I like to make sure to bring her out just to relieve her self real quick because she is always so excited, and like clock work she does and runs right back in the house with me.
