So to all of you dog geniuses out there how do I stop an 8yr old Havanese from marking in the house??? Thank god Luca doesn't follow suit! For the last few years I have been steam cleaning carpets on a weekly basis trying to keep up with all of the tiny little urine trails she leaves randomly in any number of rooms....I'm tired and I think the steam cleaner is on it's last leg so I am asking for some thoughts on what I can do to stop the cycle of marking by my altered female dog... yes that's right she's a girl and she marks... My only thoughts so far have been to throw a doggy diaper on her but I really want to work with the behavior issues... anyone delt with this before but on a larger scale? |

We have problems with our intact Norfolk Terrier although things have gotten a little better here since we bred him, as he now knows the difference between spayed & non-spayed girls.
If you're not planning on neutering him, there are things like belly bands, that you velcro around their mid section that at least will keep it off of the carpets. (They are soft, and haven't noticed any coat damage that would effect showing.) The nice thing is is that you can just throw them in the washer when they are soiled, but you end up cleaning the dog off all of the time, which ends up being a pain. But still, it's nice not worry about it on the floor... Bad little dogs! |

She luckily only did it outside. Little dogs are a whole different issue regarding pee! |

Oops! I guess I was reading that a little wrong. I guess I can't help you with that one. Try the doggie diaper though... she might associate indoor peeing with wetting herself and not like it. Weird little dogs!! |

Kiddo - it doesn't get much smaller scale than Ali Throw a diaper on her. She's been doing this for too long. Come to think of it, I'd probably mark too if I had to live with His Royal Fluffiness Kristine |
Our Blue does this on and off. What I just used today for some reason BUT it seems to work. Is SOL-U-MEL from Melaleuca. It is like Amay(Spelling) You have to find someone who sells this stuff. It is a cleaner or you can mix it with laudry for heavy soiled stuff,. I have once added to my carpet cleaning to get rid of smoke smell when we moved. I just wash the floor(FULL STRENGHT) and garbage area and the dogs or going up and sneezing at it. Sami actully made the weirds noise and went back to bed |
I don't know what to tell you either, other than diaper her. Perhaps she will dislike it enough to stop. I'm very interested in seeing if there are other ideas, though.
I have a similar, although thankfully not as often, problem with Genevieve. Everytime she goes into a home where she has not been before, she pees. Every. Single. Solitary. Time. It's terribly embarassing to have to explain to people that she feels the need to mark in the house the first time she visits. After that, she's as good as gold and never marks or has accidents, no matter how many times she visits. (Yes, believe it or not, most folks are forgiving and let her come back. ) It's just that initial introduction where she feels the need to mark her territory. Although, on occassion, when I have a foster who is not house trained and will have an accident in my house, she will mark over that, too. So, if anyone has a suggestion or solution, I'm all ears. |
