the kids, peeps, and i went to petsmart today. the kids got out of the car before me and peeps. by the time peeps and i were out, i saw my four year old standing by a fairly large boxer (the breed, not a fighter). i said, "Lola, never approach a strange dog!" the owner of the boxer said that Lola did ask, and that it was all right. peeps and i were standing about ten feet away when don't you know, the boxer lunged at my daughter! cute, fluffy peeps has an evil side (must be the side with the blue eye!) that i was surprised to see. she immediately went after the boxer and that with a vengeance! when i tried to hold her back, she went behind me and purposely freed herself from her collar so she could resume her attack on the boxer! yikes!! thanfully, the owner got her dog in the car, and a fight was avoided. i'm happy to report that Lola escaped unscathed as well! |

Well the question to would Peeps protect has been answered. No one is going to mess with her people. |
Yes, Peeps was definitely protecting Lola. |
well done for protecting her loved ones.
years and years ago I was walking with a yorkie on a lead and our first oes cross. She was such a soft girl, so placid. She was in front of me off lead and we were walking down a bit of private road (no cars). I somehow stumbled and this man who had been going into a garage came rushing up to me to help me up. Polly was there is a second, hackles up and teeth bared, I just grabbed her collar before she bit the bloke! This was the dog who when in the park and was approached by a dog bigger than her used to rush to my husband and knock him over in an attempt to get him to pick her up! Another dog who thought she was a yorkie. I will find a photo of her one day she was lovely. |
How did she get out of her collar? I would be concerned about that. glad everything worked out and I hope your daughter wasn't too upset. |
"Polly was there is a second, hackles up and teeth bared, I just grabbed her collar before she bit the bloke!"
i had read two different accounts of the oes nature-- the one said that they were Definitely Not gaurd dogs, the other said that an oes would defend with their very life. i'm glad peeps was brave enough to do what she thought she had to. "How did she get out of her collar? I would be concerned about that." i have always kept peeps' collar very loose for fear of tangles (vanity!). she had never even tugged while on her lead, and i had no idea she could squeeze that big head out of there! rest assured, when i got her collar back on it was by the "two finger" rule! |
Good for Peeps! |
Obvisouly whenever outside the home, that collar is on tight! A prong collar might be better though it looks deadly, it doesn't rub like the others do. Many people use two collars when outside, one the greyhound collar (I think it is also called a Martingale...but I could be wrong). At surprise times, two collars may save the dog's life. |
