I haven't ever compared them, but I know back in the day the pro groomers used to buy a little box that would turbo boost the Single Speed Oster. I guess the faster speed allows you to move the clippers faster while still gettting a smooth cut.
I am not sure they cut better -- just faster. Any groomers out there? Can you still buy the booster box for the A5 single speed? |
While we talking about it - what is the brand to buy and what age do you start? |
I like the Oster A 5. I started SAmi at 10 months, I fell of a quad and hurt my arm, so brushing was out. Blue also 10 months but he is easier to groom... so not yet. Unless the matts win. |
I have collected 5 - A5 oster clipper models over the years. I recently bought Andis UltraEdge clippers and I think they are way better than the osters. I love um!!! I like two speed so I don't have to chase the hair at high speed at times.

I have the Andi's 2 Speed Professional Clippers.
LOVE THEM!!! |
My Oster 1 speed must be 30 years old. It's not my first choice when I grab for a clipper.....I go to the Andis 2 speed first, but the one speed is an old reliable horse that's never failed me. Depends on how badly the dog is matted and how fast you want to be done. If dog is pretty darn mat free and you can spread the grooming over time, the one speed is OK. |
