He had an accident in his crate last night, didn't want breakfast today, has had absolutely liquid stools (with unpuffed up rice grains in it), and is pretty lethargic. His tummy is also a bit full feeling. On the other hand - he's willing to chase squirrels (had a good run just now) and is willing to go on his usual walks. Any suggestions? We're giving him water in small amounts to help with dehydration. |

hmmmm. if it is going out already and unpuff that is good, I would say! He's tummy probably hurts thou and is going to have it rough but keep an eye on him. I think because is is passing he should be ok. Mine got into margerine the other day and ate it all and PUKED it all up. Then next day tried it again margerine on the floor, so he took it But did not eat it. |
is it worth ringing your vet for any advise? |
Rice probably won't swell as that usually takes added heat. You might try mixing a bit of Metamucil( amount based on his weight, same as for humans) in some broth, room temp. Then offer some dilute broth/water to start the Metamucil swelling and moving through the stomach and intestines. Offer additional water-broth every few hours.
No food for today, just broth water. This will allow the tummy to settle. Chasing squirrels is nice, it's a sign he's not feeling really terrible, just tummy is upset. |
