There are ultrasonic bark collars or boxes which have a fairly large radius. They let off a noise which humans can't hear. I don't know what people think of these.... I know what Ru thinks of them tho |
Usually they have someone who is knowledgeable at a mainstream petstore to answer your questions and describe the different types. The ones that zap shouldn't be used on toy dogs, but there are the citronelle (sp?) collars. I'd say it worked 50% of the time b/c there was too much hair on the OES so it wouldn't go off. When it did spray her, it worked.
Some say it doesn't because it doesn't "correct" the problem just stops her for that second, but I'd say it depends on the dog. If I put that on my maltese, it would permanently correct the problem. She's smart and gets it ...and most things. It immediately stops Yuki too, but she's not too bright and will at least bark once each time to be reminded what happens but considering she'd normally bark until our ears burn... it helped. Overall it didn't work for Yuki since she's still a barker. |
I would also like to add that the cirtonella collar worked when my bichon would not stop barking. Eventually she learned that when it was on, she shouldn't bark.
However, when I put it on my OES Dodger, he rolled around on the floor until the box that sprayed the citronella was on the back of his neck and couldn't bother him. Sometimes he's too smart for his own good... |
Just wanted to add, if they are barking in the crate you will want to use the box style sensor instead. They usually come with a bracket so you can fix it to the wall out of reach. |
